Pondering on if i should get a single 5TB unit cost $175

Or a 3TB and a 2TB cost $170

obviously the single drive i have all my eggs in the same basket if it fails.

But only one drive giving off heat and making noise.

What would you go with ?

5tb, even with 2 drives you don't have redundancy so why complicate things?
Just make sure you have a backup of important stuff.

With 2 drives you have twice the chance of failure, so even though you lose half the stuff, it's still a pretty big loss. As @Steveocee said, keep it simple, and make sure you backup anything important. I have 3 drives: 3TB for data and backups from my PC and the missus' laptop, 3TB for media, and 6TB for backing up both the 3TB drives.

An addendum: drives *will* fail, that is guaranteed. The only variable is when. So... make sure you back up! Did I mention backups? 'Cause you need 'em. =)
