Need a £1450 Spec please!

I'd say you're on the right track with a 5870 and I have always found Sapphire to be a very good brand although I see people suggesting none vapour-x versions and adding an after market cooler. There is an Asus card with voltage tweak on it if that's your thing...

If you are looking to overclock then i would get the i7 930 tbh. Clocks much better for the same heat / voltage.

Yea thats true.. don't need an SSD yet (will stick with this :p), i will wait a little longer, just need the more important stuff first (if that makes sense)

Whats with all the Fermi and ATi arguments.. should i wait for Fermi?, IMO i think its pointless and i should stick to the 5870....

1 more thing no1 has actually recommended which 5870 would be the best to get?
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X = Is the one im looking to get...

Im leading towards Drake22's spec... and leaving out the Obsidian 800D and a R2E... Hmmmm 2 x 5870's ;)

Fermi is out and although faster than ati its hotter, more expensive and more power hungry and its louder.
The Vapour one is quality...quiet,quick and cool
I would get the Coolermaster ATCS 840 and the Giga EX58A-UD3R and just the one 5870 as two is just not necessary..............
and get a SSD...the Intel X-25m 80gb will be fine
then grab a few Samsung F3 1tb's or 500gb's

so basically, what I posted in post#2, with a different case?

Even gave him the case he wanted! In budget, and with the other CPU he can get a huge harddrive.

Man stulid don't take it the wrong way, I'm just trying to get the most out of my money ;)
Your spec is great but i just want to see if i can get better for my money, just different peoples thoughts, you know.. lol :p

I might be gettin annoying... but £100 more for a R2E, is not worth it? Would the Gigabyte do good for me in the long run?.. Potential etc.

The rampage is very extreme! It even has little solder pads where you can measure voltages with a multi-meter.

Its fantastic if your going to use LN2 to cool your CPU.

Consider very hard about getting a SSD into your spec.. The larger you can get, the better. Windows 7 will be sweet booting of a good SSD.

I can also say, without doubt the sapphire 5870 vapor-x is costly but its well worth the money if you like cool running and silent PC's.

For £1450 you'll get a really fantastic gaming machine..... You'll have fun once you get it...

im looking to get this 5870. looking at reviews it is almost as quiet, literally within 1 or 2 decibels as the vapour-x and it can overclock further if that is your thing. it is also slightly cheaper.

i think you should go with a Cooler Master ATCS 840. my impressions from the Corsair 800D are that it is aimed towards watercooling systems. im pretty sure there are better cases for aircooling. the Lian Li A71B looks nice.

here is my spec so far which is slightly lower priced than your budget but im sure you could fill it out with more storage space.

haf 932 is better airflow than obsidian. obsidian is rip off
r2e motherboard is not worth it, the new ud3r is great. If you badly want to spend money on the mobo though, then change to i7 930 and get http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-229-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1692 - amazing, but expensive.

in metro at 4x msaa a single 5870 is not enough. though 2 is true overkill for that res, but i put 2 cos it's in budget + it's just awesome to have two and you might wanna try eyefinity in future.

ssd not worth it, you ll boot windows 10 sec faster and install programs faster but who cares about that. 7200 rpm spinpoint f3, wd black or barracuda 12 are just fine

What about loading times in games, during and between levels?

Only people who have never used a SSD would dismiss them.

The HAF is ugly and 80% plastic.

I wouldnt get 2x5870s for Crossfire to be fair, I'd rather get 2x 5850s, overclock them and use the £200 saving on a SSD
