or even 2.0 with built in mini woofers.

currently i got very poor creative inspires 2.1 few years old @ £29.99.

i just installed a asus xonar DX sound card up from the onboard i was using, so i need a speaker upgrade

my budget is up to £100-200.

whats better between the Acoustic Energy Aego M and Logitech Z-2300?

£200 wil buy you a NAD amp and second hand standmount speakers. If you have the space, need the inputs from a amp, and want better sound quality go for amp setup.

Best speaker purchase I made was over 4 years ago for the Creative Megaworks THX 2.1 setup. Got them on special offer through a mate, they retailed for about £140 but I got them for £90.

Great speakers, excellent for home PC use. I wouldn't bother buying an amp and 2nd hand speakers, for the most part it will be a massive waste of space trying to house an amp and some large speakers when its just for use with your PC.

Just get a nice all in one solution for around £100 and you'll be laughing.

I'd be most tempted to go for:-
Logitech Z-2300 THX Certified 2.1 Speaker System (970118-0120)

They seem to be best for you off OcUK. Should do nicely!

With a budget up to £200 I don't see why you recommend those logitechs. They are expensive and sound tinny, with no mid range.

A second hand amp for £100 and the same on speakers will destroy that, and trust me once you have heard a separates system you won't care that it takes up more space. But of course this all depends on if you have any space at all ;)

For reference I have some monitor audio B2 speakers. Cost about £60+ on the bay now as there is a slightly newer range (BR2), and my arcam delta 290 amp that handles 75W RMS with both channels driven costs around £100.

I spent over £1100 to get a new amp, speakers, and stands to get a big jump in sound quality. And trust me, any set of pc speakers is well below my old setup, I upgraded from the z5500s to that :)

I have logitech z4's got them for £45 delivered I wouldn't spend any more than that on pc speakers.
They are alright for general use such as gaming watching movies etc but rubbish for music that requires midrange.

are lcd's affected by magnetism? i know they don't have an electron gun in the back of them, but does it affect the electronics at all?
