hey guys

Mid way through a new build.

I have a few questions.

1. Is there an extension for the mobo power cable I can buy? As you can see in the attached images the only way for the cable to reach the mobo port is directly across the front of the case which looks terrible. (Image 1)

2. Is there a way to support the graphics card? Its kind just hanging there a bit diagonally due to the stress on the pci port only being held in by the ports screws... (Image 3)

3. Any idea of the best place to mount the res? Rad is in the roof already but the res dosent even look like itll fit? (its a tube res) pump will be on the floor of the case.

4. Any idea how case USB 3.0 cables are dealt with? I took a pic of the front mount cable bundle and the 3.0 are plugs rather than mobo connections like normal USB? (Image 2)

1) Extension Cable for the CPU power:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-063-AK&groupid=1929&catid=153&subcat=

2) The GPU should be fine, all mine have only ever been held via the pci screws.

3) What size is the res?

4) The USB 3 would need to plugged into the rear USB 3 ports.

Edit: Your motherboard has USB 3.

thanks,

this is the res

so i have to somehow get those cables out the back of my case? i cant really do that and get the side of the case on...

oh also, my rams in correctly right? i filled 2 red 2 black slots rather than 4 red or 4 black...

right so...

adapter to fix power supply to mobo issue or mount PSU upside down?

no real option for the 3.0 USB stuff?

try and mount res in that space between mobo and drive bays?

and ram needs to be in same colour slots? (will check manual)

cheers guys, why do i want a 4 pin to 8 pin adapter for the power? the mobo needs 4 pin not an 8 pin...

The case (650D) dosent sit far off the ground and i live in a dusty room (student house) so its probably not good to have it sucking up all the dust and stuff on the floor

Some mobos have an 8 pin socket. It's supposed to provide more juice for overclocking but mobos with just the 4 pin do ok. I think if you flip the PSU you will get away without needing the adapter.

That case has a pull out dust filter for the PSU intake now I know you have the 650D ;)

ah ill consider flipping it then, the board has a 8 pin but its got some sort of 4 pin stopper in it to only let you use a 4 pin. its a OC board so id assume it would have the optimal config? but it seems to only want you using 4 pin

Yeah that dust cap comes off mate and then you can plug in the 8 pin connector from the PSU, some PSUs only have a 4 pin connector. Expect surveyor to echo this in 5,4,3,2.......LOL

ah right i wasnt sure why they would do that in the first place...

Perhaps if i can use an 8 pin i wont need to flip the PSU

Cable management can be a right dog of the female persuasion.

To power the mobo you have the 24pin connector and the 4/8 pin aux. I'm willing to bet if you flip the PSU then you will have enough cable to get around the back. If you don't we linked an extension, this is why I used the Z9 U3 as it came with an extension, that case has loads of kit for the price ;)

Personally I think I would stick those cables powering your GPU through the grommits you used to pass the 24 pin mobo power connector through. Should look a little neater if you do......it's up to you.

I try not to be OCD over cable management "behind the scenes", I just like the inside of the case to be tidy to improve the airflow and so what you can see looks nice and tidy.

Hope we are helping :)

yea ill move those GPU cables and try and solve this pin connection problem, will there be a straight 8 pin i can use? or do i have to get the 2x4 adapter to get that?

The 8 pin is always split into 4 and 4 if i recall, even straight from the PSU. Same as the 24 pin is sometimes 20pin with an extra 4 pin seperate so you can use the PSU on older 20pin mobos.

just checked and i do have a 8 pin connection so ill just use that, though its still short so ill have to extend 8 pin to 8 pin if that exists otherwise its a PSU flip!

Like they said, flip your psu and it's sorted. No need to buy an extension unless it's for looks :)
Tbh, the pic makes it look like there's enough slack for the cable to go behind the mobo as it is.

yea that cable dosent have enough slack i tried for a long time and have to give up, thats why i assume the 8 pin of the same length will have the same problem, flipping might work but im unsure of the PSU sucking up form the floor.

Dos the case have a filter on the bottom?

As long as the case isn't on a carpet floor you will be ok. If you look there is a dust filter you can pull out and clean to trap dust that could get sucked into the PSU :)

yea it has a filter i just dont know how much that catches?

All the floors the PC would be on are carpet but hopefully the 3cm or so clearance is ok

oh my the way, just to i do it right since its been 2 years since i had to do a water loop.

the order is CPU - rad - res - pump - cpu right?

and the rad fans should be mounted under the rad blowing air out the case?

hey guys

quick update, does this all look right?

RAM moved to red slots, PSU flipped and 8 pin run to the boards 8 pin, cables ran out of mobo PSU link for the GPU now to clean up.

Just need to try and mount the res between the mobo and drive bays

another quick one sorry before i finish this tomorrow.

I dont have the correct length screws to mount fans to my rad. will it be ok to run the setup with no fans on the radiator for a few days whilst i source screws? It wont be OC'd or anything just stock.

hey guys

quick pic, im at leak testing now! going to leave it for 5-6 hours and see how it goes.

everything seems to be in the right place and as good as it can be despite numerous small issues!

all finished! just installing windows. the avexir ram is super cool

a question i had was, i had to plug my radiator and case fans into the CPU fan plug on the mobo due to positioning (they run off 1 plug) and now the pc is giving me issues with CPU fan because of this, is there a settings or something I can change so the mobo will just run it as a case fan? I would just plug it ina case fan port but the positions are all bad!
