I'm with NUD atm and shall explain the situation....

Basically, when setting up the insurance I tried to put the gf on the policy but as she was under 25 the cost was astronomical, so I started playing with the quote and noticed that it was a hell of a lot cheaper to have a gf/partner on the policy which was over 25 than none at all...

..So I kept my gf on it but with her DOB a year out making her 25, she was never going to drive the car anyway (and if she did she was 3rd party from her insurer) I didn't see much harm in this as I could have easily just invented a partner to put on the policy anyway.

So my question: Now she's 25 I want her to be on the policy properly, trouble is if I phone up NUD and say 'sorry my gf DOB is wrong' and I change it, are they going to try and charge me for the extra money I should have paid (which is A LOT!)?

I would phone up but I have kinda shot myself in the foot....I can't phone up, ask to change it and when if they want to charge me more money, say I was only joking or something....not sure they would buy that :)

Risky. They may stuff you for back dated premium.

I've done the same with my missus - she's got done for speeding which was putting my premium up so I said no offences because she'll never drive the car anyway & it was cheaper with her on.

There's been occasions since where I could have done with her driving my car but buggered if I'm going to get stuffed for £80 backdated premium.

Just do it online, Remove her from the policy, then the next week put her back on with correct DOB.

Apart from that NUD suck and I'll never be using them again.

Wait until the policy renewal comes through, ring up and say:

"Erm, you seem to have my GF's date of birth wrong, I told you it was this, and your information on the renewal form you've sent me shows it as something else. Can you change it to the correct year please, thank you."

Problem solved :)

dam thats techincally insurance fraud but I can see your point if you would never let her drive. Remove the fictional person and add your gf with the real details back a week or so later.

You can't alter named drivers online, least you couldn't last time I checked, will have another look.

Trouble is if I remove her (to put her back on later with right details) they could charge me again anyway....spose I could make up a different fake named driver than change back at a later date....but that seems like taking the mick to me and my get me in trouble again.

I'll probably end up leaving it, I don't care if she doesn't drive it, it was only her bugging me to be on the insurance now that she is taking more interest cars.

Thanks for the help guys.

If you remove her they'll charge you, cos you insurance will go up. But when you put her back on then you should get a refund. How long of the policy have you got left? Is it worth just waiting till renewal date?

In my experience with NUD:
  1. Ring up and remove her from the policy - likely change in premium is £0
  2. Enter the online tool and add her as a named driver (Which can be done) - likely change in premium £0
  3. Sorted :)
I added 5 friends all around my age (18-21) on to my policy when I was with NUD, and they never charged me a penny for it!

Phoned to remove her and it would cost me £60, and I'm wondering if I would see that money again if I added another partner??......I didn't like to ask (or change current details) as the lady on the phone sounded quite suss as it was when I didn't actually remove the partner/spouse.

I have 5 months on my policy and I'm not exactly jumping at the chance of my gf driving my pride and joy so I'll probably just leave it now.

Thanks for the help tho guys.

I can't see them making you pay up for previous "mistakes" on your policy. At the end of the day it is up to you to give them the correct information. If you don't give them the correct info then it's possible that you aren't covered. It's not like you owe them money, it just means that your previous policy was possibly invalid.
