I am in the process of gathering together the components for what will be my flagship rig (Opty 165 etc. etc.).

I intend to overclock the nads of it so I need a case which offers excellent ventilation (CPU cooling will be handled by an Si120 with a Delta on it) - noise is not a problem, if I can sleep on a helicopter going to the rig, I can handle a few fans ;) (although if I can get good ventilation for less noise then all the better).

Most importantly, I want it to look good.
I don't like lots of neon lights and crud like that and I'm not overly keen on see-through sides either.

I would prefer something with smooth curves and flowing lines (not keen on boxy looking things with sharp corners).

Any ideas, case people?

Stan :)

PS: Budget N/A

And if noise doesn't bother you, then I still think the CM Wavemaster is the nicest looking case ever made, but it has 80mm fans and not-so-great airflow. :)

Are you stalking me? ;)

I was looking at the TJ07, looks nice. I think I'll have a look at their website to get a better view.
I will have a look at the others too.

Thanks again mate :)

Yeah you know last night when you thought you heard some rustling in the bushes underneath the window...

lol

I'm on an oil rig off the coast of Egypt, I didn't notice any bushes and there are no windows in the cabin ;) :D

PS: Thanks Noni, will have a look just now.

Thanks, im trying to get lots of peoples opinions on cases, so that it can be a user review place. Well thats the idea!

Cant wait for the pictures :)

You'll have to wait for a bit I'm afraid, I won't be home for at least 2 weeks :(

Can't wait to get started on this one. I never got so excited about any of my previous builds :D

I suppose if I'm posting pictures, I'll need to keep everything neat and tidy inside the case - good incentive, will help with airflow.

Stan :)

Well, I got back earlier than expected and am nearly ready to order.

Typically the TJ07 is out of stock so I have decided to go for the Coolermaster 830 instead. "This week only" too - bonus).
This looks like a nice case and I'm looking forward to getting started (probably Tuesday).

I have a couple of questions.
This case has the capacity for 9 case fans  and I thought - "what the hell" :D. Can anyone suggest suitably quiet fans for it? I was looking at the YS-TECH FD1225 120mm Fan - 4 Pin (FG-003-YS), would these be OK or are there quieter/better fans for the job? I realise this is total overkill and I will probably end up not using most of them, I just want to have them.

Secondly, would it be worth my while getting fan controllers for them (would probably need about 3)? If I can slow them down a bit, it might keep the racket at a reasonable level. If so, can anyone suggest good, cheap controllers that would do the job?

The promise of photos and review for Yewen's site still stands , of course.

Lol, I was only jesting ;) . I'd personally go for some Panaflo L1 fans and 7V them.

I know mate - although part of me did toy with the idea for a minute just out of curiosity :D

Think I'll go with Yewens suggestion of the Ambers since they're on "This week only" (if he explains how to volt mod them, never done it before :o ).

Stan :)

Hmmmm, beer can shaped case - might be time to have a word with the guys who do the metal cladding for our insulation :D

Ok, well the stable overclock will probably be what is known as 'stock' :p

How it go?

You're not far off mate :(

I can get it to do a 1Mb Superpi at 270x10 but cant get it prime stable at anything past 255x10

Think it's time to leave it for now.

Will have a go at the 4000+ San Diego in the morning - surely I'll have better luck with that.

Then on to the X2 4400+ Toledo - looking forward to that one and then the 2.4 Northwood, I think she'll do well.

I'm practicing for when I get the Opty set up :D

Have agree with paradox here, 20 months ago I paid £160 for my black wavemaster and sidepanel and I havent regretted my decision at all.

I have 4 akasa 80mm ambers hooked up to an aerogate fan controller and it's very quiet.

My temps are pretty decent, it can get warm at times but nothing extravagant, maybe a couple of degrees max.

It's a top quality case and by far the best looking case imo! Bar the fact it attracts dust like a . . . dust attracting machine :p

I've pretty much set my heart on the 830 now, although I would imagine that with 9 case fans, there will be a modicum of dust involved too

My printer is a bit like that.

Check out more pics of the Wavemaster, you need to set your heart on it dammnit :p

I had a look at it but I thought it was quite ordinary - sorry dude, different tastes and all that :)

If you do get a delta High flow fan, let us know how long it takes you to 7V, iv heard a few people say they dont mind noise (myself included) but 2 minutes later when the blood started dripping from my ears i decided they needed to be put down to 7V :P

LOL

It's all ordered now so hopefully on Tuesday. I'll let you all know and get some piccies.
There will only be the one Delta (I'm not a masochist :p ), the 9 case fans will be Akasa Ambers which will be 7 Volted

I was looking at the Viewsonic VP930, the only thing that puts me off it is the feet on the stand - fugly or what?
I suppose I could disguise them :p

Well, she got here.

Pretty much finished building now, just a couple of little things to sort out before installing OS and software etc. I may leave that until tomorrow as it has been a bit of a trial building this.

The case arrived at 13:00 today and I have just finished building.

Don't believe everything you read; the blurb from Coolermaster says "- Tool-free user-friendliness - Screwless slots".
This is a lie. I've never had so much screwdriver use in a build in my life.

On to the case.
When it arrived, my first words when I saw the size of the box was "Good God". I thought to myself that there must be a lot of padding in the box.
When I opened it I saw that, whilst there was adequate padding, there wasn't as much as I had thought.
THIS IS A MASSIVE CASE

The case will take 9 case fans but this requires 3 of the 4in3 modules (only one is included), so I only managed to install 7 :( I have no idea if they make much din or not as the Delta on the HS drowns out everything - even thoughts.

Overall impressions are that this is a very nice looking case with many good features such as: 4 front USB ports, front headset & microphone sockets, removable motherboard tray and loads and loads of ventilation - well worth the hassle putting it all together.

I like it

Here are some pictures. Sensible sized images now since Yewen's concerned about his bandwidth limit :p . I have pictured it next to one of the OcUK Value Estar Benz Cases (what I would call a normal sized case) for comparison.

I will do a review for Yewen's site once I've had a chance to finish the build and have a bit of a play.

Stan :)
