I just got a canon 40D and i need to get a CF card/cards for it. Which ones would you guys recommend? I have heard the sandisk extreme ones are good. I have around £90 to spend in total.

a couple of 16gb ones would be a simple start ,, personally i change them over so i dont keeep all eggs in one basket (or all pics on same card) ... sandisk are very good as a rule

Are cool. I have noticed that they do a 4Gb version of that, so i could get two of them. On average, how many RAW photos would i get on each one?

My Raw files from a D200 are 16Mb-ish each so around 60 per Gb.
I use 4GB Sandisk Extreme III and must say I've never yet had a problem.

I don't think you want to have more than 200-ish images on a single card as it can be a lot to lose. Just my view.

Need to watch if you need Extreme III or IV as the price will be different and possibly waste of dosh if speed of Extreme IV is unnecessary.

If money is no object then buy the Extreme IV's for futureproofing - you won't go wrong with either.

I have a mix of Sandisk, Lexar & Transcends & you would be pushed to tell the difference in use. All mine are 300x UDMA capable though as my A700 is.
if you search you should be able to find any of them for £60-70 for 8GB from trusted sources.

I've got some extreme III and IV cards, which are great. I personally don't tend to buy cards over about 4Gb in case one dies, but I've never had a problem anyway.

If you're buying Sandisk cards, beware than this brand especially suffers from knock-offs. If a deal seems too good to be true, then it will be. Buy from somewhere reputable.

lol, i just hit buy it now on ebay for a 4 gb sandisk SD card. If it's a fake, im gonna shove it sooo far up the sellers arse.

Dont bother with the extreme IV, you wont notice the difference unless you are going to be machine gunning bursts and fill the cameras buffer all the time. Extreme III's are now nearly as fast (30mbs compared to 45 for extremeIV) and far cheaper. You can pick up a genuine 4gig in packaging for around £20 as long as you steer clear of online auctions.

Yeah i that thought did cross my mind as i will mainly be doing landscape photography to start with and them some macro stuff when i can afford a new lens :P. I have also just seen that my camera doesn't support UDMA so there isn't much point in me getting a card that does.

Also took a look at you photo blog. WOW, there are some nice shots on there :). Have bookmarked the site so i can keep updated. Nice work.
