Right, I'm planning an upgrade for my Sisters PC for Xmas, as hers has packed up. (it was AMD based)

Now I have spare:

WD 320 gig Scorpio blue
Gigabyte G33MDS2R (bios updated to take 45nm socket cpu's)
Seasonic S12 430
2gig Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800.
My old Silverstone TJ08 case.

She still has a Pioneer 216 optical drive which survived the old PC failure. An old Thermaltake PSU went bang & took everything with it except the HDD & optical drive. Needless to say shes not happy about it.

Just need a dual core CPU, want it to be as quick as poss at stock but under 100 notes.

She just wants to use it for her emails & docs & interweb. I'll be installing win7 on it.

Thanks.

I say E5300 on a mild overclock, they have a 13x multiplier, so you can a fairly decent overclock on stock volts, and from what I've heard they'll do 4ghz on air.

Another option would be the E7200, I saw one go on the bay for £15 inc postage the other day, I was going to bid but forgot. :(

Say if wanted to overclock said CPU (Which I've done with my rig) would the 5300 be OK or is there a better CPU for overclocking out there for under 100 notes. Heard good things about the new E6300. EDIT: I think the above post answers my question! :D

The Intel® Pentium® E6300 is a better chip than the E5xxx series, obviously a lot of people don't know about the new E6300 hence they are still recommending the older E5xx series . . .

Grimley keep an eye out on the OcUK members market because there are plenty of used chips suitable for your needs there!

Some more RAM might not go amiss as well, and is not TOO expensive for what you can get. Only worth considering if you have money left over in your budget of course.

Slight dilemma with the extra ram. I don't know if the board I'm using will be able to overclock when all the ram slots are full. Not that the system will be overclocked at 1st anyway. Not much point in the extra 2gb as the system is for interweb, email & office tasks.
