Hi all
Both me and the misses both used to be heavily into unreal 2k4 and used to play for hours a night. I have moved on to bf3 since because ut2k4 lost its appeal after many years of playing for both of us. Since we both stopped playing 2k4 my misses barely uses her pc for gaming now and i would like something to get her back into gaming as she used to kick ass on 2k4.
She has tried many fps since and none have caught her attention.

Any suggestions on a fast paced, skill based, well populated, multiplayer, fps?

Honestly theres not much that fits the bill these days. Unreal died, CoD got big then killed itself....
best bet... Quake Live? Counter-Strike GO?

As above sadly its an area that seems to have died a bit of late with only quake live really carrying the old school twitch fps torch. Theres a few efforts like the new ROTT and shootmania but I don't think any of them really have made much of a presence for themselves.

Coming from 2k4 you might find shootmania interesting but IMO its too much style over substance, too flat and too spammy over skill.

Damn this is not looking good.
She has tried quake live but didnt get on with it.
She stayed on cod 4 for a while but that still didnt hold her attention for more than a few months.

Counter strike i dont know a lot about so i will have a look.

Rise of the Triad remake is technically what you're after...but online community is incredibly scarce. Wouldn't bother with it sadly.

Shootmania is decent, gameplay is like instagib with modes like capture the position. I am also obsessed with ut04 and shootmania didn't seem like a adequate replacement for me, its too different.

Quakelive is the only active deathmatch style fps game really. Quake has always been a fair bit faster and more competitive than unreal though so its an uphill struggle for a UT player which may be why she didnt get on with it. Have her persevere and she will likely learn to love it. Do the trial modes to learn the movement etc.

Am i right in saying cs:go is team based?
What sort of modes does it have guys.

Xonitic seems very interesting indeed , does anyone know how well its populated.

She used to play on mainly on matrix servers and fast instagib ones too bud.
It wasnt the speed or anything that put her off more just something unexplainable that didnt gel with her.

Guess it was like a game that everyone seems to like but it just doesnt do it for you.(i know ive had plenty......cough cough dead island ugh)

Tf2 can be played in any style you like. Great game for teamwork.

Play it for 24 hours before making up your mind on it. Such a vast game. Valve's biggest achievement imo.

I have tried it personally mate and its one of them that didnt gel for me, but saying that i only gave it a hour or so.
She hasnt tried it but im not sure she would like it either as she likes plain old (shoot anything that moves, lone wolf type deathmatch style)

Still its another suggestion i can give her and see what she thinks but so far she liked the look of xonotic.

Tell you what actually, look into Warsow. Its a free game, has most of the usual deathmatch modes and some pretty cool movement mixing UT and quake movement so walljumps and strafejumps etc.
