Hey, my kid doesn't know what to listen to anymore. He loves Heavy Metal he's got Slayer, he's 14 by the way, Disturbed, Nightwish, He also loves the Killing, Oasis, Killswitch ENGAGE and lots of stuff like that but he hates hip hop and gangsta rap. so any recommendations, he wants some more like oasis please, add a few metal ones if you like though, thx.

Get him the new Darkest Hour album.

Cause it's bloody phenomenal.

Or get him the last one.

Or any one, really.

Band I can't recommend highly enough is Amaran, sadly they've split up and only have 2 albums released though, might be hard to get ahold of an album, definately try though! The lead singer has an amazing voice, similar to vocals from nightwish, a little harsher, but still very melodic. The music itself has its roots in good old heavy metal with face-melting riffs rather than the harmonic style a la Nightwish.

Trivium is another good band, I find them quite similar to Killswitch Engage, who are 2 of the few "Growl" style metal bands that i'll listen to.

Expand his taste a bit. Nothing major but how about:

Thrice - Vheissu
The Mars Volta - De-loused in the Comatorium
Biffy Clyro - Puzzle
Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil (he'll probably like this one anyway)

Failing that stick some of his bands in Last.fm or Pandora and see what comes up. :)

Seconded, especially Biffy - Living is a Problem because Everything Dies is one of my current favourite songs (I'm a big foo fighters fan and I guess its style is similar!).

In Flames are another rather good metal band, look up the Whoracle and Colony albums.

Muse - Origin of Symmetry.

And Absolution (arguably their darkest album), and Black holes and revelations just because its different and rather awesome.

If he's very metal oriented though and needs convincing of other bands, let him hear Stockholm Syndrome as the first Muse track imo. :)

Sonata Arctica - Silence
Within Temptation - The Heart of Everything
Stone Sour - Come What(ever) May

Given he likes Disturbed, Nightwish etc, the bands above might interest him. Sonata Arctica and Within Temptation are in the same direction of music as Nighwish, but in different veins, whereas Stone Sour is a heavy rock band which varies from growl (the main singer is lead singer of Slipknot, but I rate Stone Sour far higher than Slipknot due to thier more varied etc sound), to well thought out, gentler, but very touching songs like 'Through the Glass'.

Also, if hes into that sort of music, and he doesnt have it, you really got to get him:
Metallica - Metallica (The Black Album)

I'll also agree with what was said earlier that he might like Trivium, but I'd personally not get him the last album as it was thier weakest one IMO.

He might also like Evanescence - Fallen (thier latest album again is the weakest so far, at least IMO, so get him Fallen as its got a lot of the 'classics' on it). Evanescence (if you don't know them), are kind of like a mix between Nightwish, Sonata Arctica and Within Temptation, being the more 'mainstream metal' of those 4 bands.

I'll second that, what an epic album it is!

He could also try unearth, all that remains or maybe Avenged Sevenfold (best band)

mars volta- de-loused in the comatorium
reuben- racecar is racecar backwards
thrice-vheissu
Nine inch nails- the fragile
Muse - origin of symmetry

Try him on some Pantera - Cowboys From Hell/Vulgar Display Of Power, served me well when i was that age. Wednesday 13 might be worth a shot, not my cup of tea but my mates 14 year old brother is mad about them.

Yeah. Brilliant song. I can't help but to go on about Biffy to anyone and everyone. They're so under-rated it's not even funny! 'As Dust Dances' is beautiful.

Minus the Bear.(every song).
Million Dead (A song to ruin album).
At the Drive-In (Relationship of Command album)

Give him some Hendrix to set him straight.

Although, for heavy stuff, Dillinger Escape Plan (Miss Machine) is where you want to head.

Also,
Eden Maine (song: The Hunter and the Hunted)
In Flames (song: Zombie Inc)

More like Oasis?

Has he heard Kasabian?

*shudders*

A kitten dies everytime anyone recommends Kasabian.

Although I have to say most other Britpop bands (or similar) suck imo, with the exception of Oasis of course.
e.g.
Embrace
Jet
Stereophonics
Counting Crows
The Charlatans

Although your son might like them, who knows :)

Stuff I'd recommend:

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
The Stone Roses
Muse
Manics
Billy Talent

Top Bottom
