Billy Talent

Seconded. Devil in a Midnight Mass is brilliant!

Hell is for Heroes - British Alt. Rock band, first album is awesome, second is so-so, third is also awesome. Try em!

Try some Opeth, Blackwater Park especially.. lovely album and some nice stuff on there :)

Children of Bodom too, being the age he is I think he will really like them (try Hate Crew Deathroll and Are You Dead Yet?)

Tool
The Haunted
Pantera
Biffy Clyro
Finger Eleven
The Wildhearts
Kings of Leon
Bad Religion
Soundgarden
Pennywise
Queens of the Stone age

Some of them aren't exactly what you wanted but I'm sure he'll like them ;)

Sounds like he's getting bored of metal.

Shine On by Jet is produced bt the same producer as some Oasis stuff and has a very similar sound, bit more rock'n'roll sounding though.

The Verve

The Beatles

Pink Floyd

Tool - Ænima (Then look at their other albums if that one catches you. Ænima is the midway point in my view between Undertow (More heavy) and Lateralus (More melodic)

Children of Bodom - Something Wild

Biffy Clyro - Vertigo of Bliss (Only heard the singles off Puzzle gotta say it just doesn't sound like Biffy without the manic screaming (Even more so live :p )

Nine inch Nails - The Downward Spiral

At the Drive-In (Relationship of Command album) as suggested up there ^^, and in-casino-out.

It should by all rights start and end there, at least for a few months.

thx anymore, hes liking tool and darkest hour.

If he likes Tool give A Perfect Circle a try it has Maynard the lead singer of Tool in there :)

Some other suggestions

Ill Nino
Zebrahead
Static-x
Skindred
Rise Against - The Suffer and The Witness
Passenger (lead singer of In Flames)
Machine Head - Anything by them is good to be honest :)

Megadeth - Rust in Peace - very important album

Should proabably get some Maiden in there too, with a dash of Led Zep

Burn My Eyes by Machine Head. Nearly broke my ears when that came out... Best metal debut ever? Maybe. Also, some Fear Factory- Demanufacture or Obsolete. And Sepultura, starting with Chaos AD or Roots Bloody Roots, probably Chaos AD. If I could only ever listen to one metal band again, it'd be Sepultura.

Pitchshifter, too, especially if he's shown any interest in the dance/metal direction, ie Enter Shikari. Graduating from Shikari to Pitchshifter would be like growing up on corned beef sandwiches, then getting a steak :D And Nine Inch Nails maybe? Starting with the Broken EP for the heavy stuff.

Million Dead too, and Hell is for Heroes (though NOT the second album, it's fairly rubbish) and Hundred Reasons. Well, Hundred Reasons aren't very metal, but they're incredibly good, so that might make up for it.

I'm also legally obliged to recommend the Wildhearts and Therapy? to anyone who'll listen, but tbh I'm not sure they fit the bill here. And I see everyone else has recommended Biffy.

The Verve - Urban Hymns
Genius.

You could get him either of Richard Ashcrofts 2 solo albums too, some top notch songwriting there.

Alternately, OK Computer by Radiohead.
