Need a firewall for vista 32bit?

doesnt block outgoing at all. you can mess around with that but i'd rather have a 3rd party firewall tbh.

anyone know any decent ones?

the vista firewall does block outgoing traffic. the thing is, i don't think you can set it to prompt you at all - you have to block/allow every application manually.... :)

which makes it practially useless and why i need a 3rd party firewall.

anyone know any decent ones?

why do people always insist on pushing the vista firewall even if that's not an option?

vistas firewall only blocks incoming and is too much of a PITA to set up individually for dozens of programs

doesnt matter now - found something

get over your paranoia

tomos,

i totally agree with you. third party firewall is the way to go.

all you real men that don't need one can just go on being brave and bragging about it.

if you can't get za or kerio to install i think you need to consider fixing your windows installation. there must be something wrong with it. i have installed za pro countless times and never had a problem.

is your system fully updated?

buachille, calm down dear.

A few tongue in cheek paranoia posts and suddenly anyone who uses the inbuilt Vista firewall is a 'real man'/warrior.

If the OP wants to use a 3rd party firewall, then that's completely fine. I fail to see what the actual issue is here myself.

And yes, I am a Mac user...what are you implying?

:D

slogan,

as you will see i have deleted that post. i should have had a closer look before i posted. it was clarkey who came out with the arrogant comment that annoyed me. saying it was paranoia to use a third party firewall on the world's most insecure os.

so i apologise to you.

however if you call me dear again i may have to kill you :D

on the subject of mac and linux users, there is a definite tendency for people to boast about how they don't need av and firewall. i don't blame you. i would love to not have those resource hogs running on my system, and after a recent boot sector virus i very nearly switched to mac, but we use sage for business and it won't run on mac. don't want to run it in boot camp or parallels so i'm stuck on pc.

so maybe what annoys me about you self satisfied people who don't get viruses is that i wish i was in the same boat. :D
