Need a firewall for vista 32bit?

No problems mate. I'm sure clarkey didn't mean anything too bad, but obviously only he can clear that up himself. Not that it really matters.

I use ZA on my Desktop (XP) so no problems with 3rd party stuff. In regards to Mac/Linux users - I know what you mean, but I've been on my MBP since Christmas and I'm dying to get back to my PC.

Can't because of an RMA which has taken over 2 months. :(

It's just a shame you don't like my Michael Winner impression. ;)

I suppose it depends who is using the computer. In my house there is only me uses this computer therefore I'm not worried about using AV or firewall since i can trust myself to know what not to click on. However in other peoples situations where there are less experienced people all using one computer then AV and firewall are definitely needed.

I think it's cause they don't have paranoia.

so it's paranoia to want a firewall that works fairly easily as opposed to setting up tedious rules for every single program?

whatever

tomos,

i totally agree with you. third party firewall is the way to go.

all you real men that don't need one can just go on being brave and bragging about it.

if you can't get za or kerio to install i think you need to consider fixing your windows installation. there must be something wrong with it. i have installed za pro countless times and never had a problem.

is your system fully updated?

its a brand new install of vista. everything else is fine now. it's not a windows fault - sunbelt say there is no vista support at the moment - same for the free and basic ZA.

AV went on fine, as did everything else (bar a panicky firefox)

Im using Kaspersky Internet Security 6 on my Vista PC and I think its brilliant.

Not only do I know the virus/spyware scanner is just about the most accurate and best around but the firewall is extremely thorough.

If anything it pops up TOO much and asks you if you want to let programmes access the internet but I would rather be annoyed by pop ups than risk anything dodgy connecting to the internet (not that I have anything on my pc like that but you never know!).

I would point out in Kaspersky to make sure if you want the program to connect you click on it in the settings to "allow all TCP/UDP" or everytime a program connects to a different IP it will ask for permission which can be irritating! This happens a lot with the vista sidebar and MSN I find!
