Need a free sound recorder

Im after a sound recorder like the windows one (Sound Recorder). Something that saves as a wave file and uses a simple microphone.

The windows one seems to be a bit rubbish, always says its out of memory and never records more than about 60 sec's.

Any help would be great, i did a google search but I need a decent opinion on one, something without virus or maleware.

Any ideas?

Audacity should certainly do what you want, a couple of other utilities are, Audio Recorder and MP3MyMP3 Recorder...

Yup, Audacity, get the lame mp3 plugin so you can save it in mp3

I used to use GoldWave which might be worth a look, been a while though so this Audacity might be far better.
