If you like Age of Empires then have a go at a similiar old title called Total Annihilation. If you have already played that, then play the newer version of it by the name of "Supreme Commander"
Personally, I prefer games like Shogun TW, Medieval TW, Rome TW and Medieval II Total War series. March 09 comes Empire TW and im utterly dying to play it!!!!!!
Act of War is pretty decent too, but personally it has nothing on Supreme Commander IMHO. SC is probably the best RTS-Only title ive seen in a long time.
Although its best to have a decent spec computer to play it
