Need a game to get me back into gaming

been out of the PC gaming world for a while as i was doing other stuff and have been busy at work and I'm looking to get back into it.

I was considering ARMA II but because i dont lead the life style where i can plan in advance to play games means i cant really be part of a clan which is what is really needed for ARMA and i've been reading most people arent too crazy about the single player.

I'm really looking for an FPS over an RPG or RTS something with a playerable single player and a good online mode that u can jump in and out of whenever I have the spare time.

I've played fallout3 and COD5 and L4D is getting a bit dull now especially after they said they're not going to release lots of updates and new maps like they said they would but just bring out a whole new game instead and I need something that isnt COD4 as i dunno why but it seems to have lost its shine
 
You didn't mention TF2 so can I assume you don't have that? If not then obviously that's a must. I find Battlefield Heroes to be good for a quick 30 min session when I have nothing else to do.
 
+1 for Team Fortress 2, i've just recently returned to this as I was playing nothing but L4D for ages and its just as much fun as ever.
 
I'd recommend Team Fortress II for some simple, fun, fast online shooting.

I'd also recommend a game like Empire total war, if you enjoy RTS, or Dawn of War II, maybe a little bit of Demigod ! it's received good reviews.

Maybe give an mmo a chance, for example WoW, Lord of the Rings all do free trials, and you never know you might like them.

If you wanted to stick to more First person games, Crysis ? Stalker ? Counter Strike ?
 
I treid wow and it put me off MMORPG, with any MMORPG you want to play it with freinds tbh
 
I too am looking to get back into gaming. The last game I played 'seriously' was FO3 a few months ago. Since then, a tough time at work and a general lack of good titles has meant that my GTX260 lies idle most of the time.

I picked up The Witcher:Enhanced Edition last week, and I am really liking it so far. I skipped the original release a couple of years ago because I read it was very buggy, but the EE seems to have been fully patched and is a more polished product.

It's definitely no FPS (i was hoping it'd be like Oblivion/FO3 hehe) but is a great 'action' RPG. It's not as detailed, free-roaming or 'epic' like Oblivion, and you don't really control the combat (unlike Oblivion), rather you click on the target and the character Geralt automatically does the fighting. But the storyline is interesting, the dialogues are decent, combat is smooth, quests are interesting, and overall, it has brought me back into gaming, so I am enjoying it.

I am eagerly awaiting Mass Effect 2....I loved the first one...I hope the sequel will be as good.:cool:
 
The Suffering. Old, but the story line is truely amazing. Creepy as hell as well. No online play but if you are looking for a good single player game. Heck it's even free now, though the torrent version is better. I find very few people actually know of this game. Don't get the sequel, it was not as good.
 
didnt think of TF2, i used to have it for the xbox till it bust. I played DOW2 well went through the co-op campagin with a mate was good but i couldnt get into it online.

might have to see how much it is on steam,


As for the witcher i got it the week it was released i enjoyed but I had to stop playing it till the first patch was released as it crashed every 10-20mins lol. its a good game tho great storyline

another one to add to the others previously listed would be fear 2. Play that in the dark with volume up, scared the crap outta me lol. TF2 is always a fun game, along with css but you do get some stroppy little kids playing that.
 
Cod4 is still the best game these days, Prototype is a very good single player game if you're looking to just relax and play.

But TF2 is also quite fun
