Need a good case

Hi guys,

Looking at buying a new case, having problems with heat issues with the current one I have and wires getting in the way. I need a lot of space for a 8800GTX , 4 hard drives and loads of wires.

Would like a case able to support loads of fans that doesn't make it sound like a rocket, easy installation and black. A few of my friends recommend Antec, and I'm not fussed about size, as long as it kepts everything inside cool and that it's able to hold all of the above (gfx, 4 hdds & wires).

Don't need a psu and cost can be around £100.

Anyone recommend a good case?

I have been looking at the Antec 300, 900 and 1200.

They do look good cases, but would they fit 4 hdds, 8800gtx gfx card and cool the whole case without a prob?

I'd say the 1200 is the only of those that would comfortable accept the GTX and be easy to work in.

My personal preference would be a Lian Li. Either an a17, v1000, pc7 or a v2000, a70/71 if you could afford it.

Loads of room, classy aluminium finish, install flexibilty and decent build quality.

My old PC-101 (similar to the v1000) with quad and 8800GTX:

I'm having many problems with heat issues with my current case and with all my new parts in it, its causing some probs.

So need a decent enough sized case, will easy installation and looks good with enough fans to call the system.

Temp:

CPU - 45
System - 55
GPU - 70-85

I'd say the a17 as it's closest to your budget: HERE

If you can manage an extra £20 then the a70 in silver (the lower of the two pics i posted) is a massive case with 6x 120mm fans supplied: HERE

Run them at 5v (or 7v) and they'd be practically silent whilst still supplying good airflow!

As for the best air cooling i can say the the antec 900 (1200 will probably be the same) is meant to be excellent but is somewhat of a dust magnet.

I like the Antec, but doesn't really hide the cables... seems slightly messy, and someone i know has the 900 and says its pretty loud, not sure what the 1200 is like tho.

The new 1200 is supposed to deal with cable management, it has all the right holes ready for such a purpose because so many people complained about it :) And tbh, do u want a cool pc or a quiet pc, because Antec do the cooling, but if you want quiet, a W/C rig is the way to go. Or swap case fans and put in some insulation stuff, a compromise has to be made.

My recently completed first build is a case in point (pardon the pun).

I went for the Lancool K7 case. It fits all the OP's prerequisites, but I had read it certainly wasn't considered a quiet case. So at the very beginning, I swapped out the stock fans for some Noctuas, and changed the plastic feet to silicon ones.

I also chose components that would be as quiet as possible, although silence (or as good as), were never a priority - I just wanted a good rig that was reasonably quiet.

Anyway, I have an E8400, Arctic Freezer 7, MSI Zilent 8800GT, Corsair HX psu, and reasonably quiet HDs (three of em), and the system is reasonably quiet, and cooling is great (though admittedly I haven't overcolcked yet).

Edit: a couple of pics to illustrate size of case and cable management;
