Good coffee maker needed (my old one died).

Would like to keep the price lower than £150 and the capacity should be more than 8 cups.

TY in advance

8 cups as in... filter coffee?

At that kind of budget you could be looking at an Espresso machine. I certainly wouldn't be spending £150 on something a £10 cafetiere could do.

Yup, should have included Espresso machine too...

choices?

There are about three or four threads in this forum. Just search for coffee maker or coffee machine and you'll find tons of information.

...although at £150, your only real choice is a Gaggia Classic when it's on offer. Unfortunately, you would also need to buy a grinder (assuming you don't have one) and a tamper (as the one that comes with the Gaggia is pants), putting you over budget.

Personally with less than £150 I'd go with a stovetop, aeropress or cafetiere until I could afford a decent machine - you could start with buying a decent grinder and then save up for a machine if you chose this path.

There's a billion times more info about this in SS's big espresso thread, have a glance through it :)

You need to think how quick you need to make that many cups of coffee.
Would you have some mates around asking for a cup of coffee???

Try making 4 cappas with a classic - it'll take a while :p

It sounds like the OP just wants americano-style coffee mostly. Still wouldn't be optimal to make that many at once with a Classic, though it's more likely that they just make the coffee and leave it there for a few hours, having a cup now and again.

Hogwash, you can get by for a while on preground coffee and a piece of wood to tamp it.

Just buy a grinder when you can afford, and infact, I still use a bit of wood and a firm grip to tamp my coffee down and it does a fine job. Fancy tamper? Waste of money.

Depends on the definition of fancy. The £14 Motta tamper I bought I'd describe as a worthwhile upgrade over the plastic one that came with my Classic - which was actually too small for the basket. If you've got an appropriate sized piece of wood though I imagine that's also fine :p

If the OP cared so little for the quality of coffee they drink, they'd have gone and bought a £15 machine from Argos rather than asking for advice in La Cuisine.

My advice may be.. snobby.. but this ain't GD!
