Need a good fantasy RPG :(

Risen is a really underrated gem of a game. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I would definitely recommend it. The combat is very unforgiving early on, but it gets better once you progress a little, and it's worth it because the game simply oozes atmosphere and immersion.

Is Risen like Two Worlds?

Risen is one of the best games I've played recently. Combat is great if you learn how it works and think, it is not a clickfest and if you do that you will get owned by all enemies.

I tryed risen AGES ago when the demo was first released. The demo had a few bugs but ill give it anotehr try :DFrm what i remmber the graphics were amazing tho and gameplay was some what fun. I tryed witcher and while it was good.. the controls were hard to get hang of (in both control types) and kind of ruined it to a point :(
I tryed guild wars but had SO many graphic problems + its an online game which means a lot of ****s < began with a c and ended in a t) which ruin a nice relaxing game lol Same with wow :P Im a VERY fussy gamer..maybe thats why i cant find ANY good games at the mo >< doesnt help that every EA game that comes out lately like sims 3 (which doesnt work on ANY of my comps and is just plain jerky) C&C4 etc are crap. Also most games lately seem to have stutters.. and nothing ruins a game like a slight stutter! :(
TBH for me oblivion is perfect so i guess ill have to go back to that :( .. I may make a 'edward' or 'carlile' type of vampire.. lol thanks anyway guys :D

Once you played all those, try Quest For Glory: Trial by Fire VGA remake. The graphics will have you screaming and running away until you look past that and see an awesome and unrivalled RPG experience.

If you can get hold of it, Severance: Blade of Darkness, could be slightly off-target since its an oldish game.

Brilliant game and an insanely hard 3rd person hack n slash.

Great game for sword play, although it probably needs some non-offical patch or tweaking on a modern system. As when I borrowed it to relive some fond memories I had problems with it on Vista (can't remember what now).

It's not a RPG as such as no stats to play around with.

As much as I LOVE The Witcher, the OP wanted non-linear, and that is not The Witcher.

Risen is more open, and also a great game.

If the OP wants a game that plays more like a mini-RTS, try Dragon Age on "Easy". This will still be challenging, though, if you stop yourself pausing the game, and instead rely on setting the right Tactics.
