Need a good oven scraper

Grill element and top of the oven will always get a beating. Especially if you cook a lot of bacon or sausage a under the grill as all the fat spits back.

Just need to keep on top of it. I have been known to take the element out and give it a good scrub but I don't recommend this unless you know what you are doing with the electrics ;)

Actually, I've never used the grill. It's just a build of oven cooked sausages, chicken thighs and frozen stuff like chips and cod in batter on the middle shelf and sometimes top shelf that's obviously spat up to the roof. I was considering removing the element but yeah, not confident on that. :p
