as the title says after a good weller variable temp soldering station.
the wlc100 looks great but i cant find any in the uk.
what do you recommend ocuk?

I recently bought a digital soldering station with temperature display and controls from a highstreet electrical retailer, it was half price for a month, normally costs £70 so I managed to get one on offer. It's branded as Precision Gold and seems to be one of the more high quality ones, the cheap ones with a dial to control temperature and no display aren't much good. Managed to get flat and fine tips for it as well which is good, especially if I am going to attempt to solder some SMT components.

We use metcal MX 500 (i think) at work.

We used Weller for a long long time, but after the change to lead free the metcal ones came in at a better price for some reason.

alright then guys, thanks for the info. the guy from system @ rev3 recommended a weller iron, that why i was looking at them but if you guys can recommend any better ones for less or the same price id be all for it.
also guys i managed to get an instructable featured on the homepage of instructables.com (breadboard basics for absolute beginners)
so view it and rate it please
thanks!

Try Date Electronics, they are known as Pavecost also. They're based in Wales. I can give you a contact email of a chap who can get you a quote on Weller toys. Here at work I just upgraded our production lines with Weller WD2M units with FE75 irons.

I have exactly the same one ;).

Cant you use google ???

In 2 secs i found a full range of the above products mentioned above . The trouble is most places sell stuff ocuk do and we cant link to a competitor .
So how about you go to google and look for Precision Gold soldering stations and see how you get on ?

Persil

Weller's website has always been laughably poor for their products and half the time bits are either missing from pages, or under construction. For Weller product pdf manuals it is best to refer to www.weller.eu.

For Weller product leaflets check out Cooper Hand Tools

These are me hot WD2M's that we have FE75 irons (static temp iron) hooked up to.

Not tried Metcal products in ages due to past reservations about their build quality. Mind you this was like 3-4yrs back.

i do google but i all the products i found were out of my price range

Thats mine. Tips are available as a pack of 3 and you get an angled one, a small pointy one, and the standard pointy one that comes with it. I did get mine when they were reduced to £40 about a year and a half back.

May I ask please what kind of jobs you do with your iron?
