I'm absolutely exhausted, the past 2 weeks have really taken it out of me. Travelled to Boston MA thanks to work for a week and a half. So including travel time etc I think my working weeks have been 60+ hours and 49+ hours

I had a day off on Monday but evidently it hasn't been enough :(

Must be quite depressing having to travel a lot with work.

So who here travels lots with their work, and how the hell do you cope? :p

Welcome to my world... I do over 40 flights a year and 12-14hr days and get paid peanuts for it. I spend pretty much 1/2 the year abroad (probably more) - I have no control of my life, I can't go out when I want to, often get shacked up in crappy hotels, I can't play in my squash or other sports leagues, or meet up for an impromptu pint with friends, or for that matter keep a regular gym schedule. I never know which country I' going to be in - I have to take god-awful flights and still work a full day. I have little time for R&R, I live out of a suitcase, I miss my friends and family, and have missed out on a lot of opportunities, it has ruined relationships and generally has led me to a huge sense of apathy.

I feel your pain. Do it for numerous years non-stop and THEN you can REALLY complain :p

Hmmm maybe I should just become a waiter....

What do you actually do, FF?

International superspy?

Yes. :( It's depressing - I had to gut someone yesterday because they wouldn't talk...

But now I'm afraid I'm going to have to kill you.

I've been trying to work this out for a while now! :p

I have no idea what else to do... I can put in the effort (as I have proven) I just wish I was renumerated more suitably for it really...

I don't mind the travel if it was more seggregated or more organised and also less of it. We're understaffed for the work we do. I'm basically the senior guy bar the directors (2 of them) so it's often up to me to get on with things really.

People say I'd be bored being stuck in the UK only - I know I wouldn't, besides I'd travel away for hols etc... Even if I do get bored of being stuck, I can always move back to an international-based company. It's just at the moment I'm completely stuck on ideas :p

Are you finding the traveling the problem or the long hours. I think it's something you either get a thrill out of or don't, my traveling has calmed down for a while but I used to do a lot of flying (around 30 - 40 flights a year) also but airports loose their appeal. My father will go to America or Taiwan for a day which I find completely mad but he finds normal!

As for the long hours, I do 60 hours+ every week but then I work for myself and I love my job and it pays OK ;) . Being a workaholic helps also! In the end a lot of people just burn out but some manage to keep on going.

Come January i start my world tour!!! Kicks off in Japan and ends in NYC

Over 15 locations, comps, demos, lots of training, 0ver 1000 pints to be drunk and hunders of fags to be smoked and probs some random activites!!!

Thats my working holiday!

The long hours I can cope with - as long as it's not constant and the "to do list" doesn't keep on getting longer rather than shorter :p But I really do get pathetically paid, if I was paid more I wouldn't even whinge (I'm not normally a whinger :o).

As I said previously a bit of more organised travel wouldn't be too bad, it's just the state in which I do it at the moment does not really appeal to me.

Maybe you should discuss with the senior partners how you feel?

If you've been there a while and they know that you can be relied upon, they should see that making your life a little easier and rewarding you more would be a good thing.

Worth a try anyway ..................... good luck. :)

I always loved the Idea of work travel till i started doing it.

Especailly since 9/11 its become a total chore flying (something i used to love), mind you Flying into the US with a stamps on your passport form most of the middle east incl Iran tends to get you noticed, I hate to think what it would be like if i had abit of a tan.

That and as stated telling a girl your going to Veitnam for a couple of months tends to get you dumped pretty quick.

Worst part is everyone alwasy asks "what was XXXXX like?" and in most cases all i have seen is Airport, Hotel, Office / Job site and thats it. It's not a holiday its work, I still remember someone having a go cause i didnt go and see the Great Wall of China, I was working 12+ hr days and didnt have a day off, that and it wasnt excatly next door to the hotel!

I have mates who get excited about jobs that involve travel, but someone said to me a long time ago that it doesn't matter where you go or how you position it, it's still just commuting.
