Im getting rid of my Asrock Ion 330 mini-ITX PC and was wondering what to replace it with.

As a mini PC it sucks, the hard drive is just to slow as is the processor. I did manage to play 108-p mkv files flawlessly but its just a bit of a hassle firing it up, finding the films etc. Also, even with the version of adobe flash, iPlayer was still jerky as hell, as was simply stuff like scrolling web pages. basically if your not forwarding it to the ION processor then you can forget it.

Id rather have a menu driven box that can stream or allow me to just hook up an external drive. playback of 1080p mkv is a must, as well as divx. Would be great if the box would allow me to view BBC iPlayer as well.

The Boxee looks like it will do pretty much everything I want but its not out yet. Other then than I read that Sony have built a box that might be promising. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I suggest that you have a read of Easyriders Playon Mini HD thread, it may be just what you are looking for

I'd wait until the '.mkv files with compressed header' issue is fixed, this is a problem for all media players based on the realtek chipset.

Once this is fixed the Playon Mini HD is a great pick, WDTV Live is also worth a mention
