Im a long time WoW player but I've recently quit for the second time - Ive been in a semi hardcore raiding enviroment most of my playtime, and ive burnt out. This game is boring.

I need some other MMO to play.
I heard Rift is good but it looks too much WoWish so im gonna pass.

Any other good mmos out there or that will come out this year at least ?

When it comes to your swords & dragons nonsense WoW won't be beaten I'm afraid. Rift is certainly a decent MMO worth playing, but I doubt you would find a permanent home there.

*waits for Planetside 2*

I'd say most of the mmo community is most excited for Star Wars: The old republic which is rumoured to be out this November...its defo the most anticipated mmo of the year. Check out the videos and websites.

Also this is a good website for upcoming mmo info: http://betacake.blogspot.com/

Thanks guys

What about guild wars 2 ? It looks very solid and considering the first GW was a success, this might be a real competitor to WoW, with its developers being people who worked for Blizzard before.

Is it coming out this year anyway ?

Yeah guild wars 2 is another mmo that everyone is looking forward to, theres quite a few now, everyone keeps going on about planetside 2, but I'm more after SWTOR.

Guess it depends what time of gameplay your after, think guild wars 2 is more for pvp'ers where as SWTOR is more for pve'ers, although both games have both aspects each is more tailored to one.

Also it helps if your a fan of the story/theme of the game...like some people that play wow were fans of the warcraft franchise before they played the game in the first place.

Just like I'm a massive fan of star wars having seen the original 3 films hundreds of times and more then any other film I've ever watched. So I already love SWTOR because I'm a big fan.

Not sure what you mean, it is an mmo, its just F2P (Free to Play) after original purchase instead of monthly subscriptions like wow.

You just buy the game like any other single player game then you dont have to pay monthly subscription's like most other mmorpg games.

But its not really a mmo you start in a lobby like place (but still 3d) then you can either find (4 or 8 people) or npc's to do the mission/quest you need to do, when in missions its just you and your team mates, npc's

the game is set for pvp mostly, have you never played guils wars 1?

Sorry if i failed at explaining it to you its abit hard for me to explain well:(

I remember hearing that GW2 is a more traditional open world MMO? Don't quote me on that though.

That's not what I have heard, as far as I know guild wars two is nothing like the guild wars 1 system. GW2 is designed with an open world system the same as most other mmos. It's not instances for your group like GW1 was.

You just described Guild Wars 1, Guild Wars 2 is open world like a traditional MMO.

You might like Age of Conan. It recently went free to play so it might be worth a try at least. Very nice combat system and a bit more involved than WoW.

Lotro is also now free to play but imo its quite similar to WoW in terms of gameplay. So if you're burnt out on the concept of WoW you might find lotro boring too.

If you want something a bit different and enjoyed the Fallout games then you might try Fallen Earth. Nice crafting system.

I'm also a long time WoW player and have been searching for something else for a long time. I've tried pretty much every MMO out there. SWOTOR is looking like the best thing on the near horizon as it should be out well before the end of the year. Imo fully voiced dialogue is going to change the world of mmo's completely. I think players will find it very hard to go back to PVE in older mmos without this feature.

I predict GW2 will end up a bit like Rift is now. People will love it for a few months but then the novelty will wear off and it'll be "just another fantasy mmo thats a bit like WoW".

Rift is good but tbh if you are burnt out from wow rift will only keep you busy for a short term. (The reason I never continued playing rift after the first free month)

Generally most MMORPGS are the same clones of wow. But saying that wow is ultimately a clone. The only way you will not get bord fast I think is if you try something different sadly this limits yer options.

Couple I can think of that break the mold.

Eve online
Atlantic online.
Minecraft or terraria not technically mmorpgs but online play can bring the fun back into gaming and get yer creative juices going.

I quit wow after 5 years of playing in Jan and still looking for something to keep me busy long term.

This thing with MMORPGS atm they are all the same. If one gets a good idea they all copy it (wow being the worst offender for copying) and because of this after playing wow you will struggle to find something to replace it sadly.

Whats this like? Just had a look around the website but one thing these places never mention is weather the game is pve or pvp focused?

Another vote for Age of Conan here, recently started this since its gone FTP.

After leaving WoW I tried RIFT and it just a to wowesque for me, decided to try Conan and I must admit I'm loving it the combat is definately the biggest winner for me its much more involved that the hotkey facerolling that WoW has become now.

Added to the fact Conan looks lovely, and oozes atmosphere. Seems to have a decent balance of PVE and PVP stuff going on and I'm on a PVE server, they have recently launched a 'hardcore' pvp server with no city guards and some other tweaks...I am not sure I would want to play on that, but each to their own.

Worth a punt for free.
