Ok background i currently use my pc attached to a rather large tv at the end of my bed but after moving i have a couple of rooms spare so i'm going back to the pc room idea so i've ordered a desk and chair etc but then realised i actually don't have a monitor anymore. I mainly game but also watch content and i'm nowhere near competitive in any game i play since cs about a decade ago. My pc is aging (Haswell i7 with a 970 but this will be upgraded to fit the whole gaming idea) i used to game on eyefinity back when i gamed properly.
So i really don't want to spend silly money but 500 wouldn't be out of the price range what's the happy middle ground for the price range (remember i will be upgrading my pc soon)

You need to decide what size resolution and refresh rate you want.

1440p high refresh rate is the popular choice also 4k 60hz but you need a powerful gpu Dependent on game.

i actually had a 4k 60hz monitor back when they started to come out (can't remember the model) i'd love a 4k over 60hz display but they are still in the dreamland for regular users i assume. It was a 27 inch (or so) asus panel if i remember rightly..... the lack of memory on the 970 killed it

You can pick up a 4k monitor for as little ad £250, but you need a strong you like a 3070 or 3080 for gaming.

Cpu is less important at high resolution so new gpu maybe psu and monitor.

The gtx 970 is good for 1080p 60 Hz.

yeah but why?
i could also pick a monitor out of the stack.... i just want to know why i should choose said monitor over multiple others

Ragnahex, how far are you from OCUK store in Newcastle, not sure if their open with the Covid, but if so they have many monitors on display.

My experience with monitors, you can have all the specs on paper, but the biggest test is to look at it while running.

Depends on a number of things that you want though;

Size, refresh rate, resolution and BUDGET.

dell s2721dgf and lg 27gl850 are the 1440/144Hz/27" kings pretty much.
