Welcome to the forums. :)

Without knowing the socket type you have, then its going to be difficult as to finding a suitable board, if you know the name of the board you have now, or which P4 processor you have then let us know as that will tell us which socket it is. :)

For a graphics card, and to keep it fairly low in price due to the £300 budget you have, then you could get the BFG 7600 GT at only £88 which is a cracker of a card, and leaves you some to play with for the memory/mobo.

Actually if its a P4 then it will be a LGA775 (I think).

Recent P4 - LGA775
Less Recent - Socket 478
Quite Old - Socket 423

I was sort of assuming LGA775 as he said he was looking for one to run Core2Duo in the future.

Also - I'm going to assume 1Gb RAM? It would also be useful to know if you have a large number of parallel ATA drives rather than SATA as that will also influence the choices available.

Do you need to be able to run games?

yes it will hopefully become a games machine in the future but am forced to do it in bits hense the ability to upgrade in the future. Its a dell atm so cannot find any info refering to the socket type, onley that it is a 3.6 p4.
