First off sorry if this is wrong place, just thought it would be best place to put it.

I was hoping you guys could recommend me a good multi-region player, either 1 that is like it from stock or 1 that I can mod

Not really fussed on brand, don't need any network features or 3D, looking too spend £150 or less, saw the Toshiba BDX1200 for £65 which I can put Aus firmware on for multi-region but can't find much info or reviews on it

Thanks for any help guys :)

Surely Japan is region 2 like us?

Japan is R2 DVD, Region A Blu

We're 2/B. and Aus is 4/B (but in reality often 4,2/B for authoring purposes*).

Also most Japanese Anime discs don't have any English language options.

So in theory we can use Japanese DVD's, but get no English language options.

They've deliberately kept Europe a separate region from the US (where most animé with English language options is released) for both DVD and Blu due to the Hollywood movie companies wanting to keep them separate markets (and then most Hollywood movies seem to be uncoded/multicoded anyway).

*Many DVD's sold in Australia and the UK share masters as we're both Pal countries with the same language, so it's cheaper to spread the costs (certainly with animé Madman in Aus have authored discs for the UK companies and vice versa as a cost sharing exercise)

[Mod please delete this link if its not allowed or a competitor... Though I don't think they are!]

Try Here "Multiregionmagic" http://www.mrmdvd.com/catalog/ as TechTronics went 'Tats-up' a fair few years ago and they were about the only place to get Region Free Hardware...

Got My Panasonic RV60 DVD player from TechTronics and its still going strong... but I need a new Telly soon and a Blu-Ray player to go with it! (don't need Multi-Region Blu-Ray just the DVD bit as my collection is 50% R2, 25% R1 and 25% R3)... I'm looking at the above place as I've heard good reviews!!!

I have two Panasonic BD Players which are multiregion for DVD and BD (the former automatically and the latter manual switching) both from the vendor Simian mentions.

Both of which happily play UK and US/JP BDs when set to the correct regions.

They have been around for quite some time, (i remember getting my first multiregion DVD Player (Pioneer 717) from them back in the late '90s) under their old trading name and have had several other multiregion DVD players from them since with no issues. The out-of-business vendor he also mentions ... well I did have dealings with them once and that player was a nightmare.

Most blu-ray players can be made multiregion for DVD's only with a few remote commands. An expensive 'dedicated' blu-ray player from the above retailer may not be required.

But I don't want just any old crap!!..

I'm looking at a Sony TV, and theres a nice Wi-Fi enabled Sony Blu-Ray player on there for £200squid!!..

Plus My Xperia arc can control Sony stuff (free app) :)
