Need a new ADSL router

A point to note. GBit on router is not a common occurrence. If you find a model you like the look of feature set wise consider using a GBit switch as a separate unit instead. Unless you are taking more than 100Mbit in/out of your DSL line then you simply do not need more on-router.

A dedicated unit should operate better than a router can do anyway and without the issue of choking up the CPU with network transfer AND routing/Firewall duties.

Only necessities are:

Gig network ports
Support ADSL and BT infinity

So far been looking at the following

Asus RT-N56U
Linksys E3000
Linksys WAG320N

MW

Asus RT-N56U - Ethernet router, not and ADSL router. Needs an ADSL modem / VDSL Modem to use with ADSL / BT Infinity

Linksys E3000 - Ethernet router, not and ADSL router. Needs an ADSL modem / VDSL Modem to use with ADSL / BT Infinity

Linksys WAG320N - ADSL2+ router - wont work with BT Infinity.

The only routers that I know of that support both ADSL and BT Infinity are:

- Billion 7800N
- Netgear DGND3700

Both have a built-in ADSL modem and an Ethernet WAN port (so you could connect the BT Infinity modem).

I happen to own both these routers at the moment. The DGND3700 has a slightly better hardware specification, but the 7800N has more mature firmware.

As others have pointed out, you could also use a separate ADSL modem and router, and you could also use a separate Gigabit switch.

Thanks for the imput, might leave it a bit especially as BT have put back my BT Infinity activation until November :(
