Hi Folks

I want a new amp for the ol' six string. I'm after a tone that would be reminiscent of Slash on AFD. But, don't get me wrong, I'm no tone whore, I'm not going for some huge Marshall head etc... I just want something that will allow me to achieve a roundabout tone.

Budget is about £400, give or take. I was looking at the Marshall Classic 5, but I'm put off by the reports that I read that say you really have to crank it to achieve any crunch. I'm a bedroom guitarist and I don't think the neighbors would appreciate that too much! I've read and heard good things about the DSL401, but it's a little out of my price range at £599'ish.

Any suggestions??

Spec me...

After watching videos of this on YT I think my mind is made up. £420 for the mini stack, what a brute. Great twangy blues tones straight through to crunchy hard rock tones. I'm sold!

Can't believe it's only £420!

Does the grin come from personal experience??

Yep! Had mine for a while now and it's brilliant.

I probably wouldn't go for the mini stack though, it'd be better to get the head and run it through a 2x12 cab.

This is supposed to be really good for the cash - it's got the same speakers as the Orange cab I'm using, but is a lot cheaper, and with the head would work out at pretty much the same price as the stack.

:)

I had the Blackstar ht-5 and ht-20, they are decent amps but definitely have disadvantages (as you would expect for an amp within that price range) My main grunt with them is that they lack balls and the gain isn't saturated enough for my liking. (they have enough gain but as I say the saturation isn't enough for me)

I purchased a JCM DSL50 on ebay yesterday for just £391, apparently purchased new from GAK 2 years ago and in mint condition.

I advise you look at a DSL combo on ebay / Gumtree :)
