Need a new battery for my Type-R

Take the negative off first then the positive.

Fitting is positive first then negative.

Doing it the other way round means if your spanner shorts between the positive and bodyshell you can expect a welded joint to be formed..........

Now to fit it... reading online it says to disconnect it for an hour in between, but in the same thread someone referred to that as a "new wives tale" and unneccessary.

Completely unnecessary.

No idea if there is an official process but I first loosened the battery so it was free, then disconnected the positive, then earth. Removed battery, plopped in the new and did the reverse to fit it. Make sure you don't go overboard when clamping the battery back in place also.

Errrrr - best practice is to disconnect the negative first (as there is no risk of accidentally completing a circuit e.g. by touching a ratchet handle or other tool against both the positive terminal and bodywork)

Whereas my experience of Bosch is total opposite, poor quality, most bosch parts go faulty on cars, they make injectors out of cheese and weak electrical parts, their appliances last around a year before they go bust, would never touch one again. Varta is a better brand if your buying from ECP, if they still sell em.

I really want to bite but I cba. I might bite later on tonight.

When I researched this a while ago, the highest capacity for a given lead acid battery size I could find was the halfords Advanced range, so I'd recommend one of those if they come in your size.

Fitted the Bosch just now :) can finally use the interior light and listen to my stereo haha

Had forgotten how incredible it actually sounds after so long! lol

Thanks for all the advice as always peeps !

Cheers,

G

Given the number of manufacturers who use Bosch parts as OEM equipment, they must be doing something right.

Learn something new every day, just on an aside I'm very careful with spanners and ratchets :D

Well of course you will find them in pretty much every car, they are like the worlds largest supplier of car components, but that doesn't mean everything they make are top notch quality or reliable.

Might be that Bosch and Varta are the same batteries. :D Bosch Silver = Varta Blue for instance.

Oh is it, well one of my mate had one in his Golf which lasted around 7 years, possibly the only thing that lasted a good few years on the car or any VAG that he keeps buying one after the other.
