Need a new bed

Usually when I get up these days I'm in agony because of my back so I think it is time for a new bed. Reading previous threads everyone says spend as much as you can to get a decent one.

I like my back so I'm not going to skimp on a bed. I've seen this on the Dreams website - http://www.dreams.co.uk/en-gb/ProductDetails/?cid=HCHP&pid=371-00007&language=en-GB - Is this any good and is Dreams a reputable place to get a bed?

Don't know if this will help but I was in a similar position to you a year or so ago - very old mattress and back feeling like it was 40 years older than me every morning.

I bought a single bed from dreams - base unit with drawer, mattress with memory foam top layer (pocket sprung), no headboard, no extended waranty. All was their blue own-brand stuff.

The cost was somewhere between £400 and £450

To be honest I think the construction of the base it a bit on the flimsy side. However I have no problems so far and the bulk of the money by far is tied up in the mattress not the base. I am a 6' tall well overweight middle aged man.

Don't want to sound like a salesman for DREAMS but I am happy with this purchase and my experience will at least give you a lower level cost and spec to work from.

Their customer service, delivery etc was very good.

EDIT: PS back is much better now :)

Me and the missus bought a silent night memory foam pocket sprung mattress from dreams, cost roughly £900 for a kingsize and base with two draws and headboard. Nicest bed I have ever slept on.

Last year I had the same problem, best thing to do is go round all the local shops and try them all out to see which one feels best. If you find one but don't like the base then just look elsewhere for the base/frame you want and buy the mattress separate. Main thing is to make sure you have a strong base that won't break and the mattress that is right for you, some people like a very firm one and other like very soft ones like myself.

Cheers for the advice. It seems a minefield out there regarding beds. At the moment I'm getting advice from someone called Tim Deegan on the MSE forums. He knows everything about beds by the looks of it.

Surely if you're overweight then that will be causing 'most' of your back problems and when you're laid down it is taking stress off your back so no wonder it is better?

Umm, no.

I only had minor difficulties with my back while using the old mattress. And then only when using it or for a short while after leaving the bed.

A bad mattress really can make your back hurt due to incorrect support.
