Our aged Bosch has gone to the great scrapheap in the sky and we now need a replacement. I'm considering this one as it has the cutlery tray at the very top, leaving more space in the bottom basket.

Are there any other machines that are worth considering?

Many thanks :)

Miele are fantastic. The only thing I'd consider is what else they have in the range you can afford.

e : is this the first GD appliance post where the OP got the brand right first time?

Would have gotten a Miele one if we had the money but we only had enough for one machine of theirs so it seemed logical to be the washing machine since it gets a hmmering.

We got a Siemens Dishwasher one and are very happy with it and it also has that tray at the top. Very handy and it doe give you a bit more room but if you are a bit OCD or have 4 different cutlery sets then it takes longer to load because of it.

Instead of just dropping all the utensils in the little tray thing you obviously need to drop each one in to a slot. The slots are very close together which is great if you only use one type of cutlery since they all have exactly the same shape. If you use more than that then you kind of need to put them in in batches in order to get as much as possible in since they will always be slightly different shapes.

Just buy lots of one type of cutlery and you'll not have half the grief we do lol.

ever considered using the sink and doing them by hand?

Using a modern dishwasher is arguably more efficient/greener than washing up by hand, the dishes will come out cleaner, it's more hygienic and you would be amazed by the amount of time that can be saved by using a dishwasher.

I have much more important stuff to be doing other than washing up (spending time with my little girl, posting on here :D other household chores etc), so a dishwasher suits us much better than washing up by hand :)

I used to test this stuff in a Lab and quite often the dishes would still have crap over them so you would have to put a bit more cleaning liquid in and put it through it's cycle again - fair enough they were Merloni products so were crap.
What I don't agree on is the time saved.
You put the dishes in which you still have to clean the major mess off first, add your cleaner and then after washing, take them out to put in a cupboard.
We never worked out how it was time saving even though it was on all our adverts.

Had our Hotpoint for over 10 years now without any hiccups. It has delivered fine sparkled glasses and cutlery each and every time.

We got a Smeg DF613SDX (price seems to have gone up lately..) a few months ago and I've been very impressed by it. I'm not a brand loyal person though so i just went for the one that suited by budget at the time and was the largest one I could get! Incredibly quiet.
