I've been playing COD4 tonight ... 1st time in 6 months since re install..

I need to replace my 8800GT on DS3 with something quicker. The default settings are simply pants considering I'm running a Dell 24" Screen.

Any suggestions? My budget £200

Actually thats true, with current prices the GTX 260 is probably better bang/buck. The gainward one in b-grade particularly

I've been with nvidia since 1999 ! That sound like a long time ;)

As i'm so excited about owning an ATI GFX crd i'll have to sleep on it ... :D

Thanks for the advise as always...

ive got COD4 bascially maxed out on 24inch screen with a 8800GT...

you left it on default so the res is small like 1024X768???

i recon you should check your settings , no doubt the rest of these a******'s just type 4870 or whatever without bothering to read the post properly... if you wrote this all wrong then sorry, but what exactly do you have the settings at! and what FPS are you getting

GTX 260 isn't a great choice with the current prices (over £20 more), when they were cheaper than a 4870 or same price...That's when they were a good alternative.

Definitely a 4870, but I have noticed GTX 260 offers better min frame rates in many games over the 4870.

They can be found cheaper than a 4870 on this very website. I think with all the fluctuation that goes on at this price bracket it's nowhere near as simple as saying "This card is £20 more, but isn't worth the extra", because that could just as easily be knocked off in a deal, or the other card goes up when it's restocked, etc.

It's much better to say 'around' 200, decide on which you like the look of best, then find it as cheap as you can!

My card wont handle 1920 x 1080 it stutters ... It is smooth at 1280 everything maxed but am sure it could be better.

(Along with my other thread. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17936975 I think I'm due a new PSU. My PSU is only 550w)

I'm probably not the only person to ignore a power supply as it doesn't sound exotic and interesting :D

This is a fantastic forum.. :)

.

Go for the 4870. I moved to this card from an overclocked 8800GTX and the improvement is pretty great in most titles. There are the odd few games where the performance is slightly if at all better but as we all know........... majority rules!!!! :D.

CoD4 is where the 4870 performs really well also ;).
