I dont have a soundcard so I use usb headsets with mics. I use it for gaming mainly and have a budget up to £90 and no more. ATM I am very tempted by the razer kraken 7.1 usb headset. Anyone got one? Any other recommendations?

Steelseries Siberia V2 and the Plantronics GameCom might be worth a look.

They are shockingly bad and poor build quality WHEN COMPARED to the Qpad QH 85 which cost 75, and I owned both the headsets you mentioned.

To the OP, get the QPad QH 85 and you will be amazed, when it comes to gaming, the headset can be compared to headphones that cost 2-4 times as much!

Damn. My bad then, just seen them talked about a lot as far as 'budget' headsets are confirmed; haven't tried either myself, I've just had A40s for the past 3 years.. :P

On a side note, I am going for USB because I don't have a soundcard. I have read that some onboard motherboard sound cards can be quite good, is this so? I have the Sabertooth 990FX.

Still moving towards the Razer Kraken 7.1 USB heaset I reckon

I tend to be up down from pc in a evening, don't want to have to take a headset off and unclip a mic all the time to be honest. So a headset with mic integrated for definite

I have had the astro A40's not the new models the old one, and the Qpads are that much better HOWEVER, the mixamp is an amazing piece of kit, its a shame its an overprices external soundcard. Infact Astro are overpriced

Get the QPad QH 85 like I mentioned, Just look at the reviews, and trust me you will not be disappointed. The Qpads greatly benefit from an amp and a onboard sound card the Asus DG or DGX that go for around 20-25 quid is more then enough and the sweet spot for gaming.

Bare in mind the AMP to activate it inside the software its called "gain settings" and set it to the second option, and listen to the difference.

the gamecom is pretty solid, i've heard the headpiece is a little weak and snaps but mines fine after 6 months heavy use

I got the Razer Kraken Pro recently, they're good. Good sound quality, they feel durable and the mic hides away neatly in the left earcup. Comfortable aswell even for hours on end.

There is a black version if the bright green doesn't appeal ;)

I think the green ones are the 'pros' and the black ones are the newer '7.1' ones

ASUS Xonar DG, Creative Aurvana Live and a Speedlink SPES clip-on mic.

All for £80 and far superior.

Had a look but to be honest I would at least want integrated headset and mic. I would consider a soundcard and this but when you are shopping for stuff there is never a definitive clear...buy this lol, so annoying.

Personally i'd get what Papa is suggesting, but that's because when I played games I wasn't always talking to people, so having the mic elsewhere wasn't an issue. I can say that I got a Plantronics Audio 300 desktop mic in the end; really did the trick for me (if you have the desk space).

ssOK so I think I have decided that I am going for the razer kraken 7.1 but I have seen in reviews that the predecessor (kraken pro) supports the same software and is cheaper .... anyone had experience with either or both?

I fancy going with the pro version because it's all green and a little cheaper, not normally my style, but I fancy statemnet headset this time.

I cannot see the main difference s between them apart from the mic is better in the 7.1.

I only ever use my mic for voice comms in gaming,so uber and ok I don't care., not as is you hear yourself. so whats better?

ATM Started Deadspace1 and assassin Creed 4:Blackflag

Been trying the headset set out for a month now and can say that the sound quality is stunning compared to my old SoundBlaster tactic 4D headset. Problem is after hour or 2 of game play I start to get pain on my right ear, so I am deciding whether or not to send them back and try another headset :(

I know some people really rate onboard sound nowadays, anyone know how the sound measures up on my motherboard (sabertooth 990fx) compared to a USB headset with inline soundcard?
