hi guys,

i need to get a new plasma or lcd to hang on a wall.

the screen needs to be as flat as possible. it can have speakers on the side. a seperate sub woofer speaker is ok as i can hide this away.

do you have any suggestions? i coudl also get one which does not have any speakers as i will be getting a new dvd / stereo system as well, so the sound could be channelled through that.

thanks for your help.

Might be worth looking at commercial panels but you wont get what you are after for less than £1k unless you are happy to buy something with integrated speakers.

Have you also considered the cost of the wall bracket and cabling.

Are you DIY'ing the wall mount or getting somebody in. Obviously that costs too.

the wall mount will be done by the builder who is doing the refurb, so no worries there.

the speakers can be intergrated if the cost is going to go through the roof otherwise.

another few quick question... can all plasmas be wall mounted, or just some models? do i need to buy seperate wall mounts?

Most are wall mountable these days - but check that the unit you buy is VESA Standard wallmountable - then look for a mount that suits your needs.

Vogals do a whole range of plasma/lcd wall mounts - some are static, some swivel, so go up and down etc.

You need to decide whether you want Plasma, or LCD TV. There isnt one better then the other, just people have preferences on both. I personally prefer LCD as the images are sharper when I watch football etc. But some people say plasma is better for watching movies as the skin tones are softer.

Have a look at the Hyundai product sold by OCUK - for that budget you can get a 42" Plasma (Q421HR) which comes with speakers and stand. The speakers are detachable so you can have them on or off - or look at the 32" LCD TV (Q321 or Q320). They are the same spec but the Q320 has a built in Card Player on the side so if you want to look at your digital photos you slip the memory card into the slot and it plays them - or you can download movies and play them straight from it. There is a 40" LCD too called the Q400 but thats just outside your £1k budget.

great, thanks for the help.

i tihink i want to go the plasma route. also having read some reviews it seems panasonic make some of the best... is this right?

Personally, no they dont.

Samsung Manufacturering make "imho" the best Plasma panels, and thats the reason Sony, Samsung Electronics and Hyundai IT all use them in their models.

Comes down to what YOU prefer to spend YOUR money on though mate - After all, you worked for it!!!

ok thanks for the advice.

i will look out for samsung ones then. just need to decide on the one i want then find the cheapest place to get it.

it does amaze me the different prices online retailers charge. i have seen £400 differences in some screens!

Sony dont make any retail Plasma's but Samsung Q plasma's are good but Pannys and Pioneer are the best. But can only comment on Samsung and Panny and i believe Panny is better but Sammy better value for money. But LCD's Samsung/Sony use the same screen. But different drivers. Pannys LCD's are over hyped by Mags (referring to LXD60's) but LXD600's are like Sony's V's and are Very Good.

Sony only stopped making Plasma's about 5 months ago at factory level. So you would only have recently stopped seeing Sony plasma products for sale in the UK.

And you mentioned "different drivers" - Im hoping you meant different "engines".

Each manufacturer have their own techology engines - Sony have VEGA, Hyundai have FiT.....
