Need a new PSU, any suggestions?

My current PSU, 750W, has stopped working. I am looking for a new PSU that will not only serve my current PC and my upcoming Ivy Bridge PC but also the PC after that.

In other works I want a PSU that is future proof and that will be suitable for most circumstances. Modular is preferable and I don't want to go cheap (although I am not getting a £250 PSU).

As a rough estimate I am looking for a PSU that will be able to handle a high end motherboard and CPU, overclocked a lot of course, SLI\Crossfire graphics and anything else that I might get within reason.

Any suggestions?

Well actually you can as to get the best efficiency from a PSU you want to be running it at about 50-60% load.
 
Which PSU did you have in mind? If the only difference is Gold vs the Silver power efficiency of the XFX, then it will take a while to claim back that £50 difference in electricity usage depending also on average hour usage per day.

Theres also the factor of what components you are wanting to run and in the future.

I want to be able to run almost anything within reason and to be completely confident that the PSU will not stop working or take out components, like my current 750W Thoughpower did.
 
So reasonable being a pair of GTX580's/6970's maximum? which is what a good 850W PSU is capable of.

If you are thinking of a pair GTX590's/6990's (dual GPU per card remember making quad SLi/Crossfire) then a 12000W PSU is a better idea.
 
I was thinking for, for example, a i7 3930 @ 4.8, SLI GTX 580 OCed 33%. And of course add a bit because components in a few years will probably require a bit more. Other then that I can't see ever getting more then that.
 
TBH the PSU is one of the few components that can be truly considered "future-proof", spend wisely now, whilst (if) you have the money and save yourself a lot of hassle further down the line.

That is what I am thinking get something good with a long guarantee and use it for a while. But still £218 is a lot of money.

for a psu i feel that is a lot but i totally agree with everyone else.... you wont need to change it for a LONG time

£218 on a psu......thats more than 60% of what i spent on my build haha (student budget)
 
I think, from what I've heard, the Corsair AX PSUs are the best. But I am not sure what which one to get the cheaper 850W or the more expensive 1200W. And I am also on a student budget.
 
The AX1200 are made by flextronics (a few reports of coil whine floating around here), all the others are made by Seasonic and that makes them great.
