hello
i recently have decided to buy an entirely new rig, pretty much
here is the way it currently stands:

E6600 @ 3ghz
X800 pro
1gb geil ultra
1xsata
1xide
P5N-E SLi
antec truepower 2.0 430 watt
and various case fans

being a gamer, i want a dx 10 card, but being cost conscious, i have also opted for an 8800 gts 320mb version

ive searched and searched power consumption, psu calculators etc, and ive decided that i cant risk running it with my current psu, as i dont have any insurance on the pc, and if it blows, i wont be happy.

i now need to spend more on a psu, but i cant really spend too much. i dont plan to use SLi in the forseable future.

what should i go for?

thankyou

any recomended wattage? i dont want anything silly like a 1kw sli psu with 4 pcie connectors or anything like tht

anything which is slightly cheaper? dont mean to sound cheap, and im sure i will more than likely buy that one anyway, as its been recommended to me elsewhere

This one will be fine.

No it will not! If you are buying a new psu then avoid the Hipers like the plague. Too many of these damn things have been blowing up lately and it's just not worth the risk. Yes some people have had no problems with them. That's always the case until they blow up and leave you with an expensive bil for new components.

Never, ever skimp on a psu. ;)

Yep - don't touch the hiper. Just had one die on me after 2 days - and i'm by no means the only one.

Gone instead for a seasonic m12 which so far seems altogether better. I do miss the natty plastic case tho......

have to agree, its almost anything but hiper at this stage. these forums have had a wealth of hiper issues lately.

Geez only 2days i bet they don't even test them before leaving the factory as no one wants the testing job there.
