Need a new RPG

Yes but how long has the 360 been around, apart from Oblivion the rest are pretty lame. I mostly like Japanese style RPG's and the only two on the 360 are Blue Dragon and Enchanted Arms which both got poor reviews.Eternal Sonata may be good but looks like it has no depth and very linear.

I really want to get a 360 but the lack of traditional style RPG's are lacking. I know that Microsoft are trying to temp the Japanese market making RPG's but have failed so far. Most of the other 360 games I have on the PC.

The Playstation has a great pedigree in really good RPG's and will contiune to do so, that's why I will be buying one next year sometime.

I disagree. I bought a 360 mainly for Oblivion and Mass Effect as rpgs are my favourite genre and the 360 is head and shoulders above the PS3 at the moment (and foreseeable future).

Mass Effect will be the best rpg released this and maybe next year and Fable 2 will be massive.

Blue Dragon got 9/9/9/10 from famitsu; the only bad reviews (and we're talking 6/7s) were from western sites. I, and I know many others on here (many come from a PS2 background) personally loved it. Eternal Sonata is getting better reviews than Blue Dragon and I've not spoken to anyone who doesn't like it yet. Enchanted Arms was ok.

With Lost Odyssey coming out early next year and even Square getting on board with the 360 the future looks very bright.

I agree there are a few decent rpg's coming out for the 360 but I think in the long run the PS3 will have much more to offer for the RPG fan.

Time will tell.

how long is long though? x360 looks tempting with its rpgs - even though i prefer the ps3 console. Luckily theres games incoming that make up for this.

And another one all but confirmed:

Space Siege

Pro-G caught up with Taylor after a presentation of his new PC action RPG Space Siege, scheduled for release "in the middle of next year". Taylor revealed that Space Siege is more likely to come out on Xbox 360 before the PS3 because of added complexity with Sony's console and a smaller install base compared with Microsoft's next-gen offering.

Played the demo of eternal sonata this morning, looks quite interesting.

Visually the game looks great and I like the mix of old and new style battle systems (still seeing the enemies on screen but having to go to a separate battle screen to fight).

I also thought that the battling was quite cool, because of the light/dark system and the fact that it gives you a set time and its up to you what you do. Might give it another play through (demo is really short) and see what I think

I'm not a major RPG fan but I did enjoy the demo, its a nice break from the other kind of games I play. Although, three or four times I'd get quite far passed the village, pause it, come back and press "A" to unpause it, but OH NO, A exits the game back to the menu and you have to start over. Would do it again but im not doing it for a fifth.

I'd be interested in anyone who has the game, letting me know what its like as far as character development. I see there are different weapons and some different special attacks, but does this have any major impact ?

Mainly with the amount of damage that's caused so it makes the battles easier/quicker. Some of the effects of the attacks are quite cool but ultimately nothing awe inspiring imo, at least not yet (i'm on Chapter 3).
Some weapons have added effects like posion, extra HP etc. Allegreto on my save game currently has a weapon that gives him some HP back on every turn which is handy.

I'm still waiting to pick it up. One question though... Do you get to pick a class or are you forced into fighting as a certain class ?

You've complete freedom and can pick what skills to improve as you go through. You can be magic specific (there are 5 schools) or fighter (or archer) or a bit of jack-of-all. I'm level 29, I'm trying to mold a paladin/knight type character so lots into smack-in-the-face type skills and a few into Air Magic (healing). I've read that with magic it's very much traditional. To start with it's a bit of a struggle but persevere and you become god like.
