I have several here but each version of them can change so its hard to recommend one.
How about a USB one?
Edimax EW-7318USg works OOTB. It also has a detachable antenna in case you need to boost yours signal.
I have used this for several linux installs for people of the last few months, they work flawlessly.
I've used a number of wifi cards on Ubuntu 8.10, and not had a problem with any. The best I used though was made my TP-Link, think it's an Atheros chipset.
For absolutely no hassle computing, get one with an atheros chipset as those are the best supported. There's a good list here detailing OEMs, models and chipsets used.
Edit: Also, if you're moving it to the garage (which I only just read) you might want to think about getting a wireless N router and a wireless N card. The new N standard (as opposed to a/b or g) gives greater range and faster speeds than a/b or g cards. TP-Link do PCI, Mini-PCI, USB and PCMCIA cards based on wireless N draft 2 from Atheros. Look for cards using the AR5008 chipset.
