Currently have an 8800GT which has died (oven trick fixed it once but fed up of it now) and I need to replace it. I don't play anything taxing - 1920x1080 - SC2, CS Source, it would be nice to future proof it a bit but I'm not bothered about running at full quality or anything like that.

There isn't much on MM at the moment, and to be honest I think I'd prefer the full warranty.

I was thinking about something along the lines of the 6850 range, I think this would be about x3 faster? Quieter the better, lower power consumption the better.

Currently a Q6600 although i'll probably go to i5 early next year :)

In the clearance section, which may or may not appeal to you, there is this beauty :

If buying brand new I would focus on the 6800 range like you mentioned. I appreciate it's somewhat over budget but this caught my eye :

If the above is a little too much over budget then consider this :

Btw, below is a rough but pretty close comparison of your 8800gt v a 5850. There was a direct comparison available but it doesn't matter, a 6850 is almost as fast as a 5850. There is very little in it.

msi 6850 cyclone which is on this week only and is ultra quiet with great overclocking ability
got one today and very inmpressed

Yes, one good thing about the Cyclone is that although a smidgen dearer than the HIS version I linked to, it may well be quieter (and possibly more overclockable) due to the cooler. Just a thought.

6870 today only 14 left last I checked

Only 13 now ;)

It seemed it had a decent boost over the 6850, certainly worth a few extra quid. I would have preferred 3 years warranty but you can't have it all

The b grade was tempting but it isn't clear if you get the full manufacturer warranty.

Thanks for the replies all, especially arc@css, your post seemed to get longer each time i refreshed ;)

Still annoyed the 8800 failed, it's four years old but I was hoping to get an SSD next month!

Your welcome. I smiled at your comment because I was about to embed a couple of video reviews as well. :) :D

Your lucky you didn't ask any more questions otherwise the next step would have been for me to lay on coffee and mints. :D

Enjoy your new purchase. :)

Re : the SSD, well, when you can afford one you'll be glad you did. I can honestly say now I wouldn't go back after having owned one. It makes my Velociraptor look slightly on the sluggish side.
