Ok, so I've had a few different neighbors next door for the last few years as it's a rented property and none of them have really been a problem noise wise or anything else. It seems over the past day or two a new neighbor has moved in, last night the front door was opening and closing very frequently between about 1 - 2 am, not exactly quiet closing doors either but no one was going in or out.

Now they've started again, the front door must have opened and closed about 10 times in the past 10 minutes. Sometimes one after the other, no one going in or out...

Neighborly noise doesn't really ever bother me because I'm sure we make our fair share, but it's getting on my **** because I can't think of a logical reason why they would be doing it.

why dont you just pop your head around and welcome your new neighbour :P

excuse to find out whats going on maybe the door isnt shut properly

Maybe it's in response to you opening the door to see what's going on?

"Who goes there?! hmmmmmmmmmmm *closes door*"
"*opens door* I've got you!!!! Oh... nobody.... *closes door*"
"*opens door* AHA!!! ooooo..... *closes door*"

You sure its the main door, in our new build there are those electric meter boxes that can make a hell of a noise when not shut properly and the wind catches them.

Most definitely the door, unmistakable creak, thud, handle turn.

Probably just opening it for a very quick puff. Are you sure it's the door, why not stand outside and see?

Perhaps they' fitting something such as a draft excluder/hinge adjustment and are opening and closing it as they make alterations/adjustments?

That would be logical, not necessarily correct though!

He has guessed that it is annoying you so continues to do it whilst doing and evil villain type laugh

Maybe he was letting his cats in and out the front at the early hours of the morning. As for the daytime he could be hearing cars drive past and think it's a CityLink van for that package he's been waiting on for 3 days. It's a rational explanation, I'm not saying it's true.
