The AM3 (Athlon X3 445) heatsink is starting to f-ing annoy the ass out of me, i have cool and quiet enabled but the f-ing fan is constantly changing speed and it is really annoying.
For example i will open FF and you can hear it ramp up from say 2000rpm to 2500rpm or so and this happens as soon as you do anything on the computer
It really is a piece of crap , why AMD ship there PIB`s with these pieces of junk is a mystery.

Anyway, i need a CHEAP replacement HS, preferably as quiet as possible and a simple fitting is a must, i cannot be bothered taking out the MB to fit brackets / back plates.. just a simple latch like the stock heatsink will be fine

Any suggestions please?

Cheers for the replies guy`s :)

@ whipgeez
I was contemplating the H50 but it seems to be a lot of hassle fitting wise and more than i wanted to spend to be fair, although it might be a future upgrade when i go to a hex core

@ Seraph
I was looking at the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 pro but i couldnt work out if it used a backplate or was simple clip style like the stock cooler

Think my mind is made up, Freezer 7 Pro it is :) and under £20 woo hoo!
Should be able to get another 200mhz+ easily too! (can get 3.4ghz stable but the temps are way too high on this stock HS)

*Just ordered*
£24.96 with Postage!

you think 2500RPM is annoying, try 6800 :(
(amd use the same standard heatsink for the Phenom II X4 955 that i have as they do for your processor, except put a faster fan on it)

before you go and get a cooler, any chance of knowing what case you've got. last thing i'd want you to do is do what i almost did and buy a cooler that wont fit

6800rpm ******* hell! my mate used to overclock a socket A using a fan which did 7000 and produced 72db lol
sounded like a jet plane taking off :p
I think the actual fan on my stock HS is faulty, it seems to have a wine when speeding up/slowing down so might be coiling (according to a Google search anyway)

I have a full Tower (Generic Trendsonic Tower 4x 5.25" bays)
that will be no issue whatsoever :)

If anything the RAM slot might be a problem (all 4 are occupied) but i read the reviews of the Freezer Pro 7 on the shop site and someone said it would fit their Gigabyte m-ATX with a couple of mm to spare (same size board i have) so might be a bit tight but should fit ok

Oh and i have already ordered it lol now, but obviously not been dispatched yet.

You think it will be ok?

Right, Freezer Pro 7 turned up Today, **** me it is a big old bitch.
Anyway, looking at it it appears it is going to be as tight as an altar boys arse to get this in, (RAM clearance as all 4 slots full)
TBH it looks like i can trim a touch off the fan (as it clips to the fins and is not screwed in)
But i am really undecided what to do ffs
If i go ahead and try to fit it i cannot then send it back.and if i do the fan mod then there is no way i can send it back
if i send it back i will have to pay postage and buy something else and that is hassle.

thoughts/suggestions? Should i just get ghetto on it or do the sensible thing and return it?
