Need a run around, suggestions please.

As above, very cheap but fine for toddling around town, borderline fun to throw about too - really not up to motorway jaunts of more than a few minutes though.

the GF has a 2012 aygo, its actually fairly good for a 1L the new tottaly different shape aygo is coming out in july so prices will drop.
the dealer offered 3500 for her car on trade in at toyota for the new shape thats coming out its on 20k miles.
400 miles to £40 and thats booting it around like a go kart. £0 on tax £100 for insurance for the year. bargin!

Get a 2.0T A3 Sportback. Will be quick enough and reliable enough, and not too heavy on the fuel. Should last a few years, then be an easy enough sale on the other side.

My brother in law had an Aygo. He'd had much more powerful cars before it (hot hatches etc) but he said it was more fun than any of them. He said you can drive it quite close to its limits a lot more of the time, so it was a lot more fun when you're not on a track (99.99% of the time). Add in how cheap it was to run and he loved it.

this is the reason our aygo is staying... if i want to boot it about i go out in my celica.

The little polo gti's are alright actually, reasonable turn of pace, reasonable economy, reasonable refinement - I wouldn't buy that one based on what has been done to the grille alone but they aren't a bad car at all. Bit unloved by all, but it does at least mean they aren't particularly expensive.

I really like my new (to me) FN2 and thought my diesel civic was a great car too.....but the ride is pretty harsh - not something that bothers me, but compared to a focus or the likes you would really notice it. The smaller wheels make it pretty acceptable, although obviously they don't really look as good

Golf looks nice, assume that's the 120 tsi? Don't touch the 160/170 without warranty.

It's a much nicer car than the focus, mk2.5 or mk3 - the mk3 in particular has been ruined inside

Ok So I bought a car today.

1.4 TSI (122 BHP) Golf SE
2011 with 34k on the clock
Spec is not bad at all, dynaudio, Bluetooh, Parking Sensors, Dab.

I am going to retrofit the RNS 510 Nav, Lather Interior (maybe) and Reverse camera.

Why spend all that money retro fitting leather, NAV etc... Surely there are enough Golf's around to have found one with that spec?

Sat Nav is easy and would only cost around £500. I can probably get £150 to £200 back for RCD 510 that the car came with so its a very cheap upgrade. Most the 1.4 TSI's are poverty spec.

Leather, I just could not find one under £10k with lather. However I may not bother with this, Its not actually that expensive.

Can i ask how much you paid?

Im also looking for a run around too with pretty much the same requirements as yourself...

Not sure if it permitted to promote my own vehicle. I'm selling a Honda crv, it's a fully equipped auto with satnav, leather, heated seats and whole load of other goodies. It's in amazing condition for its age 57 plate and just broke 50k. It's a little over the top end of your budget. Let me know if it sounds interesting. I guess it may be a bit big from your OP...oh also nearly forgot also rear parking camera :)

I started with a £5k budget, I ended up spending £9.2k but its a 2011 car with 34k on the clock.

I drove it for the first time today, I got 37 MPG on a 2 hour drive through London with a average speed of 14mph. I Also did a 150mile run up the M1 at around 90mph and got only 40mpg.

This is good value
