Need A Shredder

We have this one at work:

Expensive, but honestly was worth every penny - shreds continuously, and does ID Cards, CDs and anything else you care to put near it.
Not had a jam in the 3 years or so that we've had it - and used almost daily.

For a more budget friendly option (£84.99) though, I bought this one for home

It's worked fine for shredding big piles of documents, envelopes, and the like, although the Automatic mode has never worked since I got - but not an issue for home, as I'm normally batch shredding.

Buy cheap buy twice with a shredder.

I have a Rexel one that I got from Staples I think, it does auto feed where you lay A4 paper flat and it drags it through sheet at a time. It was great for the first year, but now that auto feed doesn't seem to work so it's basically a massive hand fed shredder that will only do 3 pages and it'll overheat after 5 minutes. Still works after nearly 10 years and 2 house moves so can't complain too much. I'll likely get something proper when I come to replace it as I'm quite anal about shredding anything with any of my details on. I just can't bring myself to get rid when it still works.

That was the debate we was just having, whats the point of paying £250/300 if we only smash big piles of paper every couple of years and a few here and there in between.
The last one we got from staples was a nightmare to use, stopped after 10 pages had to wait 10Mins for the thing to cool down. if I recall I removed the temp switch and run it into the ground just for the crack.

We ordered an LX65 Fellowes, will report back when we've have had chance to smash it!

"RUNTIME - The LX65 paper shredder will shred non-stop for up to 6 minutes before requiring a 20 minute cool down period, meeting the demand for occasional use in the home office"

A mere Padawan of a shredder compared to the 79Ci :D

I'm sure it will be great though

I've got a Fellowes Powershred shredder which shreds pretty anything I put into micro-cuts. It's had a good few lengthy runs and I think it's only cut out once and that was after filling a black bag's worth for somebody as a favour.

I keep mine oiled with standard 3-in-1 oil each time I empty the bin. I find it easy enough to coat both sides of a sheet of paper with oil and run it through.

They have those where I work too

I have a Rexel Maxima which has been with me for 10+ years and never let me down. Even put my credit/debit cards through it and it munches them.

Autofeed still works as well.

I used to have that same shredder before my Fellows. I think the autofeed on mine broke after many years, so I just bought a Fellowes. The first thing I noticed was how quiet the Fellows sounded in comparison to the Rexel. :D

We got a Fellows Powershred 60c about 8 years ago and whilst it's not had massive use, it seems quite capable and usually only stops when I have to empty the tub.

I normally give it an oiled sheet as the first and last of any run, and if I have to empty it.

I had a cheap Rexel one and it was rubbish, i was stunned when i found a really good Fellowes model for £7.50 in a charity shop.

The difference in the blades and performance is night and day, the cheap one was like a toy in comparison.
