need a single player game

I could advise you to not rely on Steam's Offline mode. Without an internet connection:

  • Steam will shaft you.
  • Steam will try to phone home.
  • Steam will lock you out of your games if it can't phone home (yes, even in 'Offline' Mode)
  • There willl be nothing you can do about it until you get a good unrestricted internet connection.

Before you leave, make sure you have cracks for all the Steam games on ur laptop.

The solution to this is to not use Steam. I get my games on GOG where possible because they're completely DRM-free. I couldn't give a monkey's toss about achievements though so this could be a deal breaker if you do. They also give you store credit for the difference if a game is cheaper in another region.

As for recommendations, I'd go with a few different games that you can jump between. Three weeks playing the same thing might get a bit boring so I'd recommend stuff like Papers, Please, Bastion, FTL, Luftrausers is good fun in short bursts, Gunpoint, Risk of Rain, etc. If you want something more in depth XCOM is great (make sure you pick up Enemy Within as it adds a lot of new stuff) and there is a tablet version, so should run well on almost anything. Civilization V (get the complete pack) is a lot of fun and a good time sink. Something like Crusader Kings II might be worth a look as would some older things. Check out GOG's store. I recently picked up Deus Ex and System Shock 2 :)

You could get some kind of emulator and rip games that you legally own onto it, or whatever.

You might be able to play ps2 games on that CPU, but worth checking.

I couldn't recommend any 'good' RTS games, cos I hate that genre, but I could advise you to not rely on Steam's Offline mode. Without an internet connection:

Literally none of that is true unless you've been a tard and tried to start steam with a limited internet connection.

As for telling people to crack games, I was without regular net for months at a time and had no issues until I LET it try and phone home on restricted net accidentally.

This is like the 5th time now that I've seen you spout the same rubbish because of your own mistake, stop misleading people.

Mass effect trilogy as mentioned will last you a fair while. Be warned.... you may find yourself staying up late and being tired for your job.
