Need to build a pc for my old man. Main use will be for autocad.

price point is approx 300. Doesnt need case, monitor or psu.

I have a gt430 but not sure if that is any use for autocad.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The nvidia GPU has cuda support, this could very well help his CAD software if it supports CUDA :) £300 approx? How is this......

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £173.99
1 x MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £77.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) £66.98
1 x GeIL Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £37.99
Total : £356.95 (includes shipping : FREE).

I5K is a quadcore and the Z77 can overclock the CPU, would be wise to add an aftermarket heatsink later to exploit this feature fully. The Z77 mobo can make clever use of the IGP. Lucid MVP will switch between the IGP and GPU depending on whats needed. During gaming the IGP boosts the GPU, during video encoding tasks the IGP can boost the process if the software supports intel quicksync.

1TB is plenty of storage the seagate drives are faster than the cheaper western digital drives. 8GB of 1600mhz RAM at a good price is plenty to get him started, the mobo has two spare RAM slots left if you want to upgrade later.

Do you have an OS? Adding an optical drive will be an extra £15. 8GB of RAM or higher requires a 64bit OS, you could use the developers edition of windows 8 now to save some cash. Then choose between 7 or 8 once the later is released officially. If you are savvy you can install the OS via USB pendrive ;)
