Need a wireless adapter

Hi all,

I've just finished building my new PC but I forgot that I need to get a wireless adapter for it (my PC isn't in a good location for a wired connection). Is there anything I need to look out for when buying one? And does anyone have any recommendations?

Many thanks

I had no idea that something like that was even possible, that's really interesting. It says in the description that it can carry speeds up to 1200mbps, but is there much drop off in speed to a standard wired connection?

Usually work fine @Rexxar.

When I had mine they were always plugged in extensions.

May have to initially plug into mains socket when pairing though.

Consider them as an alternative to wireless rather than an replacement for a fully wired connection.

I'd second what everyone else has said, although I'd suggest always plugging them directly into the wall rather than an extension. If that's an issue, you can get homeplugs that have a mains socket on them as well. Use a longer Ethernet cable to plug it into the router if needs be.

They generally work brilliant, unless you've got something spaffing noise onto your home electrical wiring. Ask on your friends list or whatever, see if you can borrow a pair to try for half an hour.

Take the throughput figures with a pinch of salt. The quickest benchmark I've seen of real figures was someone on here with around 250Mbps.

Can't beat a proper cabled connection.
