Hello all,

This is my current PC setup -

case: Corsair graphite 230t
Motherboard: asus m5a97 r2.0
Graphics card: zotac gtx 1060 6 core with 2 fans
CPU: AMD FX8350 8 core 4HZ
ram: 2x Hyper X Fury 8gb DDR3 (I have 16GB)

I have little/No knowledge on gaming PC however i have a friend who knows his stuff. He put together this list for me to buy which comes at £450.

https://gyazo.com/af69d4b423b6e7323aae290a13fdebbb

I have a few questions -

When i look up the Motherboard on OCUK, it comes up with 3 which are the same however they have different prices. What are the differences in these motherboards?

1. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ocket-am4-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-557-gi.html

2. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ocket-am4-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-558-gi.html

3. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...am4-ddr4-micro-atx-motherboard-mb-559-gi.html

Number 3 is the one which my friend recommended however i want to know, is it worth me spending the extra money and buying Number 1 or 2? Will i benefit from spending the extra money?

--

My next question is about the Ryzen CPU. I searched the CPU on OCUK and it came up with two however they have a different price tag.

1. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39z-am.html

2.https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39y-am.html

I noticed that number 1 comes with a good CPU cooler however it is 3.2GHZ or 3.6GHZ overclocked (I dont think i will overclock my PC) and that number 2 comes without a CPU cooler which means i will have to buy a new one however it comes with 3.6GHZ and 4GHZ overclocked. What will be better for my GTX 1060?

What one would you recommend i get? Will it fit into the PC motherboard which you chose above as i heard the CPU is a different size socket and i want to make sure it fits? Is the 3.6GHZ worth the extra £30 in order for me to get better performance?

--

My next question is about the RAM. I was recommended to get the Corsair Vengeance Ram which is 8GB and runs at 2400MHZ speed however someone recommeneded i get the RAM listed below as it is garenteed 3200MHZ which is 16GB. They said that Ryzen relies on ram for it to function well? Would this ram work with my motherboard and is it good for the Ryzen CPU?

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-08l-tg.html

--

Last question is about the case. My friend recommended the OCUK Benifix nova. However i found this case and i am in love with it!

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/frac...ss-micro-atx-case-glass-window-ca-07e-fd.html

Would this be a better case to go for and will the parts fit inside the case?

And lastly, If i was to upgrade my GPU from the 1060 to a 1080, will these parts be able to support the 1080?

Thank you ever so much for helping me, It is hard finding parts when i dont have much knowledge.

I am willing to spend extra money and make sure that i buy the better performing parts which will last me longer as this is the last upgrade i plan on doing to my PC for a while.

Thanks for any replies! <3

maybe swap the 6 core for the 8 core or if you dont already have one then use the remaining money for a decent ssd.

as for the 1080, it would match well with either so youd have no problem.

Firstly if you decide on that case you will need a matx size motherboard like your friend reccomended., so that rules out the other 2 boards you was asking aboutas there are larger atx.

The ryzen 1600 and 1600x the x is clocked higher hence the extra price and doesnt come with a cooler but the 1600 can be overcloked to match the x

Faster ram definatly and get 16gb.

What psu do you have ?

Do you not think that this CPU, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39y-am.html Is worth getting instead of the one which you listed?

Do you also think that the RAM which i listed, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-08l-tg.html Is worth getting over the one which you recommended?

And my last question - Why have you chosen that motherboard over the ones which is listed in the post? Is it better?

Thanks so much!

So should i get the motherboard which my friend recommended, Get the Ryzen 1600x and then this ram? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-08l-tg.html Would that work well?

3200mhz ram its to expensive in my opinion stick with 3000mhzput it towards something else and if you get the 1600x you will need a cpu cooler. The cooler i recomend has a white led fan there is also a red led version.

Brilliant, thanks so much! Do you have any recommendations on ram which is 16GB and 3000MHz? trying to go for a blue/white and black PC build!:D

Exomale an atx motherboard with a micro atx case.

doh! well either way if he decided to have an atx case then a good shout otherwise yeah either of the micro boards he listed ha.

OP:

you dont need the X, just get the 1600, the speed is what? .10? wouldnt even notice and if you wanted to overclock they still managed the same outcome, i have learnt this from all the readings on this site and yeah i chose wrong size board without looking at the case as it doesnt quite look micro atx from picture, so any of the ones your friend listed would do the job just fine.

while the vs450 is decent for its low rated range from corsair, i wouldnt try power a 1080 from it as that produce like 200w dont they? that vs450 probably doesnt have the correct auxiliary inputs to power the card, i know the 350 version doesnt, you would need something like what micky suggested or a good quality 550w like whats in my sig.

I think i would change the motherboard if your going for that colour scheme as the red wont match, have a word with your friend and maybe take a look at the ASrock ab350m pro4 and run everything by him before you purchase.

options.

Ok, so i have taken your advice, i have put together a parts list which i have here.

SET UP 1:

https://gyazo.com/f8d3b589767317d7b2df2641f2188be

This is the Normal CPU without the X. This will have everything which i need such as the nice case, ram 16GB, New power supply, a motherboard which suits the theme and fits into the case and then the normal Ryzen.

Will come to roughly £580 (If we round it up)

Would this be good to have or would it be better to go for this? -

SET UP 2:

https://gyazo.com/bae576dbb101d2df22dc18cf1b4901cb

This is the Ryzen X without a stock fan, all the case which i want, the ram which is 16GB, The motherboard which fits into the case and then a power supply which will be able to run the PC.

All i will need to add is a £35 fan which will be this one - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/raijintek-leto-white-led-slim-120mm-cpu-cooler-hs-02a-rt.html

This will come out to roughly £630-640.

What setup would you pick? Set up 1 or 2?

Thanks Millions!

I tend to stick with Gigabyte, due to strong Rep presence on here and being only manufacture to have GPU and RMA center in the UK , if you live near by can even drop it off lol.
But to be honest , if going with OCUK will never have to get that point for you doing it personally!

Yeah, 1700 and an AIO ;)

If you like ASrock and want the best board on the Ryzen platform with 1600

Such a killer combo to be honest

nice, but if it was me, id get an atx motherboard like i suggested or a gigabyte version thats the same price , i purchased a custom prebuilt before and was an atx tower with a micro atx board, only benefit i saw from it was all the space at the bottom for the cables as it came with a none modular power supply that sat at the bottom, if im honest i think it looks stupid, better to fill the case with the max size board it fits, wouldnt feel wasted.

unless you really need 3200mhz ram then drop it down to 3000, save £20 plus quid which you then could use for a better cooler if you went with the X, but i am confused, your link states the none X is 3.2ghz, but its actually 3.6ghz and on this site the X is at 4ghz? so if you can get higher than 3.6ghz then go for it, i had 3.6ghz from an haswell i3 and did well, your be having a 6 core chip so much better.

which ever of those 2 you go for if you are set on those particular items then get an ATX board even if you keep the same ram speed.

Sweet, thanks for the advice. Just want to know, what would you choose out of these?

When i click on the Ryzen link on overclockers it says in title its 3.6GHZ but what it doesnt tell you that is the speed it runs when overclocked and i dont think i will be overclocking my PC.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39z-am.html

  • 3,2 GHz Base- & 3.6 GHz Turbo Clock with Precision Boost <-- this is what is stated in the description of the product (Im guessing this means it runs at 3.6GHz if it is overclocked but only 3.2GHz if not overclocked?)
I may be wrong but i am not sure.

Lets say i am set on the two setups i gave you earlier would you just recommend me to get a bigger board just so it fills the case more?
I plan on sticking a small figure of Rick in the case which will be sitting at the bottom if there is enough space! =P

Would stick with the two I've quoted above , the Taichi is one of two of the best and boards you can get and that deal is killer .
Gaming 3 is the best budget b350 adding a 1700 to the mix.
If your after ASRock, get the taichi

Just to bring the punch on the two I quote @Journey @Plec
