Hi,

Just after details of what i need to do to get a sky netgear dg834gt router working with o2.

i've tried the search but cant figure out how to get the search function to accept o2 as the word is too short.

seen recommendations of updating the firmware, just wonder what changes i need to make to the router after that has been done to get it to work.

main reason for getting it is i understand i can adjust the noise levels, which should hopefully give me a more stable connection.

Any other info you think will be useful will be appreciated.

thanks..........

nice one, cheers.

says to use netgear firmware, you reckon using dgteam etc will still be okay ?

Yeah the links in that thread are a bit old. DGTeam looks well maintained and seems to have features which make it worth using over official firmware no matter which service you're on.

I guess the only issue you might have is time taken for the DG834GT to obtain an IP address if you've only just unplugged the o2 box, but if you can spoof the MAC address of o2 box that'll probably speed it up.

eventually got it working, turns out that the router wasn't unlocked, on looking around started to dread the fact that some were saying there was no way to unlock the new sky routers :(.

managed to get it done, thanks to all the various posters that put the information up, also that the router password is different to the netgear standard.

stumbled across the reason that it wouldnt work, i stupidly forgot to say that i was on the o2 home access package, and the config for the router was different to the normal LLU config, most importantly it needs a username and password, which i managed to get off o2.

updated to the DG firmware, speed is slightly slower than with the o2 box at the moment, but i'm happy with that as o2 couldnt manage the speed for me as its bt equipment, i know my line is dodgy (used to have problems running at 1mb but running better at 2mb on o2), and im more interested in stability than speed.

will see how it goes for the moment, then maybe look at tweaking the snr setting if im still getting issues.

got a problem whereby my in game pings have risen, even above their previously silly rates of 100-140.

i got kicked off a server with a ping exceeding 190, and the server is one i play on regularly :(.

Helpppp changed to dg834gt router on o2 and game pings have increased over 50%

the dg834gt is syncing at a lower speed than my 02 box, but my pings have gone from (at highest) 100-135 up to 180+ and im getting kicked offer servers i regularly play on.

are there specific settings i can change to resolve the problem ?

cheers........

the initial pings (from 50 up to 130) o2 is due to congestion, being as im on home access its reliant on BT and it appears they dont plan to work on it until 2010.

firmware is the latest dgteam one.

pings are in game on a game server ive used for years, connected via wire.
