well im looking into my education again, i did **** in school, my goal is to go for Degree in Photography with Journalism (always been interested in it, i havnt just said oo i want to have one of them), will take years upon years i know, but the way im going im gonna be useless anyway, so im wondering what im gonna have to do, im certain ill need to go to college, and do all subjects again? so i can atleast go into uni, this is all a question still, because i realy dont know.

or will i even have to do all them subjects again ? might there be a course to do with Photography with Journalism that will get me into uni, without having to sit all my maths english ect again, again i realy dont know , so thats why im looking for some hard info, im sure theres loads of you in uni, who have been uni, that might have even done a Degree in Photography with Journalism :)

i did START a media course in college, that was abit photography, graphical deisgning, but that was leading me onto the graphical design road and not so much the photography, i was given false info at the time, i only lasted a month, which is how long it took them to tell me this wasnt really for photography!, i was going to just swap courses but they said, no sorry its been too long and i had to wait about 9 months for the board or whatever to open again, i didnt go back after 9 months, didnt even think of education untill now because i was/am joining the army, been 2 years since i first joined the army, ive joined 3 times, various medical reason, and now im losing hope, so i cant keep hoping for the army, which ive been thinking lately.

Funnily enough I have been looking at this course at Staffs Uni but it seems that you need a very good understanding of Photography techniques and equipment.

I haven't got that much experience so will have to look for a decent home study course, maybe try Open University. Issue is then, getting a Part time course to fit around my job.

I would say get into contact with South Cheshire College or something similar to get some information as they'll know for sure how they can help you.

well the course is at University of Chester, im hoping people will have experience with this in here before i start ringing around ;)

put it straight to you i 120% wont be going Uni first :D, can guarantee ill need to go to college.

i wish they had this info on the University of Chester website, about what grades and qualifications you need for a course, thats basicaly what i want.

thats just to get into uni though surely ? long way away, i mean as i said im gonna have to start from the beggining, part time courses or something at first, again i dont know

If your serious I would start working on one now, even if you don't use all the pics it'll really help you to learn, maybe get a flickr.

Course Specific Requirements:

160 UCAS points or above in an appropriate discipline. Students should have a good level of English which needs to be demonstrated through a piece of written work alongside a portfolio of artwork.

Found something!, but WTF is that :D

and ive got many, many pictures from holidays and stuff i mean on a average 1 week holiday i take about 250pictures, and no not faceook kind where camera is everywhere just with half a face in the picture :D, so i supose i could put together a portfolio of some sort anyway, but this is jumping the gun abit i mean i dont want to get to ahead of myself here ;), im unbelievably serious on this.

Depending on your age you may not need to fulfill the UCAS points requirement, however they may ask you to take a booster course to increase your knowledge.

Only way to find out is to phone/email them.

Your best bet is to email the admissions person for the course you're looking at to find out exactly what they require. If you want to do something like photography, you should definitely be working on a portfolio.

yeh ive emailed them, take them years to get back but worth a try :)

Falmouth University mate.

Arts and Photography are the specialities, 4 of my house mates do Photograpy, whether it be press or normal.

I know LOADS of people who do it, and the course is the best in the country.

Portfolios are accepted, not just A levels etc.

160 points!? With such a low requirement I would be weary of the quality of the course, even for a course that not many people apply to it sounds very low, almost as if they are desperate for people to apply...

If you go to college you should be able to do A levels/GCSE's in one year if you work hard enough.

well what are points in the first place :D

i would have to do GCSE's first, as i said in above posts with what i got from school, its like ill have to start from the beggining, only because i didnt attend, not because im thick as pig **** ;).

but what a huge mistake that was, its true, if you dont go school youll pay for it in the future , so im starting education again while i can

Good luck anksy, I think your doing the right thing and you will be pleased with yourself when you've done it. Kudos to you for not just giving up.

My personal opinion is to question whether going to college and getting a formal qualification in photography is worth the time and expense. My own view is that making photography work as a career is having firstly a "good eye", and then having the personal motivation and drive to effectively market yourself and get work. In a way it's a case of you've either got it or you haven't, and the only way you will find out is by trying to make a go of it in a real world situation. Things you can do: create a website, contact local web design firms and see if they need a photographer, get a myspace profile, start a blog, try and sell your photos to stock photography sites and news agencies, try and sell your photo prints in local shopping centres or at local fairs or to local art galleries.

Best of luck, hope this helps.

Rgds

If you got onto a college course a few years ago chances are they'll let you on one now, and hopefully it will be more photography based this time.

Build up some experiance and be sure you want to follow it through, then see what Unis will open up to you.

yeh but my question is, because my english, science, maths ect were so bad from high school, will i need to redo them subjects in college so i can get into Uni (even though i wont be doing them in Uni)? or Might the Uni allow me into photography, if i have a photography qualification of some sort from college.
